The inaugural PenCo Invitational took place at Winkler Field in Ft. Thomas on August 29-30 featuring some of the most talented fastpitch softball players from around the region.
The two-day tournament which was originally scheduled to be held in Falmouth, was moved to Ft. Thomas following inclement weather that resulted in the home site being unplayable.
Eight teams from around northern Kentucky and greater Cincinnati battled it out including PenCo Premier, a group of ladies from Pendleton County.
PenCo Premier competed in pool play on day one finishing 1-2 with a win over NKY Bandits. On day two, after scoring two victories in a single-elimination tournament, the two squads met again for the championship. This time, it would be the Bandits who would come out on top with a 14-6 win to claim the title.
Despite falling short, the coaching staff raved about the play of the team which was not playing at full strength on day two. Ace starting pitcher, Kayley Bruener missed action due to having a prior commitment. But, backup pitchers, Kylie Richardson and Madison Verst stepped up and delivered solid outings throughout the day.
PenCo Premier will continue to play a schedule throughout the fall as they look to develop more team chemistry that will aid them in the years to come.
