The Pendleton County Ladycats Fastpitch Softball team began their 2024 season last week and fell in all three games that they took part in. Despite a slow start, optimism remains high that things will turn around quickly.

The Ladycats traveled to Fleming County on March 20 for the season opener and would lose 11-0 in five innings. The Lady Panthers shut the door on the contest as they scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth. Pendleton County committed four defensive errors and was limited to just one base hit, which was produced by sophomore Mylie Honnert.

On March 21, the Ladycats traveled to Bracken County to take on the Lady Bears. Bracken County defended its home field as they put 15 runs across the plate to score a 15-3 victory. Ladycats freshman Hannah Spaulding led the offense as she clubbed her first home run of the season as she went 3-3 at the plate with a double and three RBI's. Honnert, Aubrey Mullins and Madison Verst also collected hits during the game. The team concluded the week by hosting Montgomery County on March 22 and would fall 10-0 in six innings. Pendleton County was limited to just two hits as Spaulding doubled and senior Reagan Anderson reached with a single.

Pendleton County head coach Jessica Verst says the team is still looking to gel together as some starters recently joined the team following an extended postseason run put together by the Ladycats basketball team.

"The girls are getting back into the groove of things. We've only had the basketball players back for a week and a half. We did a lot of positive things and some things we know we need to work on. It is going to take some time for us to find our footing. The girls are positive and ready for this week" Coach Verst said.

Pendleton County looks to get into the winning column as the team travels north to face Campbell County on March 26 followed by a home game with Bishop Brossart the next day. On March 29, the girls will host Tates Creek followed by another home game taking on Lewis County on March 30 at noon.
