BUTLER —  On April 19, Northern Elementary School’s Bobcat Council took four years’ worth of pop can tabs to Cincinnati’s Ronald McDonald’s House.

The RMH exchanges the pop tabs for money at a local recycling center. There is more aluminum in the tab than the entire can.

The money received is used to pay utility bills for the center.

Six NES students, guidance counselor Jodi Gerhardstein, and chaperone Tabatha Biddle made the trek to Cincinnati.

Before the trip, the children had made birthday cards for residents and took those with them.

The Pendleton County group was led on a tour and learned about the many activities the center does.

RMH aids families with critically ill children. This includes providing a place to stay for extended periods, emotional support, prepared meals, game and fitness rooms, and activities for other children, among other benefits.

The cost is a suggested donation of $10 a night, but no one is turned away because of inability to pay.

The RMH has needs for volunteers, donations — monetary and other, and even things like creating milestone cards.
