25 Years Ago - December 26, 1995

    Three Falmouth fireman announced their retirement from the department after many years of service. Falmouth Fire Chief Keevil Hart presented the three men with plaques. The retirees were Henry Bertram, assistant fire chief 15 years, Larry McClanahan 10 years, and Joe Ishmael with 10 years of service.
    On December 19 the Pendleton County Conservation District completed 55 years of service to the farmers and landowners of Pendleton County. The district was formed in 1940 and was the third district to be chartered in Kentucky.
    On December 21, ten Pendleton County children went Christmas shopping with their very own policeman. Each police officer was assigned several children and took them to several stores in Falmouth to shop.
    Santa Claus visited Falmouth IGA on December 15 and had his picture taken with several children.
    Falmouth IGA fresh ground beef 99 cents a pound, Kentucky Border Bologna 99 cents a pound, and 2 liter Pepsi 79 cents.

50 Years Ago - December 18, 1970

    Pendleton County Wildcats snapped the Grant County winning streak at five by scalping the Braves 79-73. The Wildcats posted their 7th victory in 8 starts.
    December 6 the Wildcats gained their 6th victory of the season by defeating Conner. The Wildcats outscored the Cougars at the end of each quarter.
    Mrs. Malissanna Barlow Light, aged 63 years, wife of Carl Light, prominent Pendleton County citizen, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 1970. Her home was on Montjoy Street in Falmouth.
    Mrs. Stella Bradley, daughter of the late Rollie and Ollie R. Prather, was born on October 31, 1901 in Woodford County and passed away on Sunday, December 13, 1970.
    Mr. and Mrs. Richard Vanlandingham of Falmouth, are receiving congratulations on the arrival of a new son named Kelly Lynn, born December 9, 1970.

75 Years Ago - December 14, 1945

    Pendleton County and Northern Kentucky farmers were reported this week as well pleased with the prices that were being received for the burley that had been sold on the markets.
    Another fine Pendleton County son, 2nd Lt. Desmond E. Steele, son of Mr. and Mrs. Garnett Steele, of Concord, has been officially declared dead by the War Department.
    With even the war over, a casualty hit Falmouth and Pendleton County last week when it was reported that Sgt. Leroy Craig, 23, was one of three flyers missing in an airplane crash in the mountains of California.
    Mrs. Ollie Alfretta Pugh, daughter of the late Charles and Judith Ann Barton, was born in Pendleton County on July 26, 1871 and passed away Tuesday, December 3, 1945.
    William Helthon Lancen, aged 72 years passed away Thursday, December 6, 1945.

100 Years Ago - December 18, 1920

    George Tarr, a highly respected citizen of Milford, passed away Saturday, December 4.
    The sad news of the sudden death of Charles Lytle of Augusta, which occurred last Friday, was a great shock to his many friends here.
    Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Hiteman are rejoicing over the arrival of a little daughter, Charlotte Bernice.
    Born to the wife of Henry Baumgartner of the Straight Shoot Pike on December 14, a little son.
    It is with a sad heart we write of the death of a dear mother, Mrs. John W. Cummins, who passed away at her home November 22.
    Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Cummins are rejoicing over the arrival of a little daughter at their home on November 26, to be called Dorothy.
