25 Years Ago - December 5, 1995

    Community donations to purchase defibrillators aided in saving the life of a Falmouth man. EMT’s were called to the Budde home on Elm St. Without the defibrillator things might have been different, but after one shock a heartbeat was detetected and Richard Budde was transported to the hospital.
    Moonlight Madness Sales hit Falmouth this Friday night as various businesses have gotten together to prepare for the sales. Merchants will have reduced prices and they welcome all of the public to come and shop.
    Pine Grove United Methodist Church located at Caddo was first organized in 1870’s Two groups of people , one that worshipped in a building known as Minnie’s Hall which stood near the old Fisher School , and the other which held services at what was called Mt. Vernon Sunday School (a log cabin near the Poe family home). On May 4, 1876 the present site was purchased from Barbara Cox for the sum of $50.     
    Sixth grade places third at Mason County tournament the team is made up of Danny Schoborg, Adam Crozier, Lonnie Miller, J. R. Kells, Brad Cox, Brian Rigsby, Nick Carr, Chris Peoples, Brandon Courts, and Garrad Gillespie. Coaches: Wade Florer, Alan Schafer,John Peoples and Dan Schoberg.

50 Years Ago - November 27, 1970

    Sales of the 1970 crop of burley tobacco began Monday with prices slightly higher than on the first day last year.
    Pendleton County defeated Deming Saturday Night 81-62 at Mt. Olivet. Pendleton County defeated Mason County 54-50 Friday night at the Mason County gym.
    The Pendleton County Wildcats varsity and B team are both off to a roaring start. The varsity has had three games with three victories while the B team won two out of three. Wildcats first game of the season, Nov. 17, was against the Williamstown Demons. The game was tough for a while, but the Wildcats pulled through for a 92-74 victory.
    Charles William King, son of the late Alvin and Ida Browning King, was born in Pendleton County on Feb. 12, 1894 and passed away on Nov. 21, 1970

75 Years Ago - November 27, 1945

    Pfc. James A. Hayes is currently performing guard duty with the 94th Inft. Div. in Czechoslovakia. He has been assigned to special duty. He is a musician in the company orchestra.
    Cpl. Max Goldberg arrived in Falmouth Monday Nov. 19, wearing the Golden Duck, which denotes that he has been relieved of his duties with Uncle Sam, after serving about 30  months in the European theater. Corporal Goldberg, who has served as engineer in the Air Corps. , but only recently had been assigned to the Special Services Division, wears the Air Medal with three Bronze Stars. He has nine missions to his credit, has the Good Conduct Medal, and a Victory Ribbon with a star, denoting overseas service. Max also wears a Medal of Service with the Royal Air Force. Receiving his discharge  at Ft. Devins, Mass. on Nov. 16, 1945. Corporal Goldberg arrived in Falmouth this week to find his mother, Mrs. Jennie Goldberg , and brother, Morris. He says that he is thankful to be back in good old Kentucky after having had the opportunity of serving his country.
    Ralph Simpson, a senior in the Morgan Consolidated School, won first place in the Pendleton County Soil Conservation essay contest.

100 Years Ago - November 27, 1920

    The snow drifted too deep in places on Pendleton’s roads that the mail carrier on Boyd Route 2 had to shovel a road to get through with his machine.
    J. B. Doggett recently sold his saw outfit to Pete Edwards of Petra for $225.
    Tom Caldwell bought J. Ishmael’s farm of 62 acres for $4,500. This farm is known as the Mrs. Kate Milion Farm near Colemansville.
    Miss Mary E. Reynolds has purchased of Will H. Pendergest, his cottage on Chapel St. in this city, recently occupied by James Powers and family. Price $1,450.
    Mrs. Anna E. Sheanshang (nee Haubner) was born in Bavaria, Germany, on July 4, 1839, and came to America with her parents in 1845, at the age of six years. She passed away on November 17, 1920. She was married to Stephen Sheanshang in 1859, who preceded her to the Great Beyond 41 years ago. To this union there were born eight children, five of whom are living, John S. and Joseph W. of Grants Lick, Allie S. of Brayville, Martin L. of Cincinnati, and Mrs. Lillie Shaver of Mentor, also 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
