25 Years Ago - October 3, 1995

    Nine property owners in Pendleton County are notified they are now residents in Kenton County. Nine families living on Rogers Road and Grassy Creek Road in the western part of Pendleton County received tax bills from Kenton County. They will also receive tax bills from Pendleton County.
    73 year old Ed Hall was boating last week on the Licking River when his boat got caught at the Willow Riffle. He was stuck for two and a half days. Rescue workers said he had plenty of food and things in the boat. He was successfully rescued and turned down medical treatment.
    The third annual open house for the Mary Allender log home on Hickory Grove Road in Pendleton County will be Oct. 21. The cabin was built in 1856 by James Allender.The farm was in the Allender family for 134 years before being sold in 1946.

50 Years Ago - October 2, 1970

    After 35 years of continuous business, Pressman’s Department Store announces a going out of business sale.
    Congressman Gene Snyder announced Friday that a grant has been received from the Department of the Interior from the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation for $354,204 for Kincaid Lake State Park.
     Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Cox, Peach Grove, announce the arrival of a beautiful 8 lb. 6 oz. daughter, Alisha Lana-del, born September 19, 1970.
    Keith Fisher, general manager of Fisher’s Chevrolet, Inc. Falmouth is all smiles this week. Reason, the arrival of Thomas Bradley Fisher in his family on Wednesday, September 23, 1970. He weighed 9 lbs. 3 ozs.

75 Years Ago - September 28, 1945

    Pfc. Randall Wright, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wright of near McKenneysburg, has been awarded the highly Silver Star. He also wears the Purple Heart for wounds received in action Feb. 8, 1945 in France. Young Wright entered the service from Falmouth on Nov. 9, 1943, and received his training at Camp Tuele Lake, CA, and Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He left for overseas in Nov. 1944. Pfc Wright has seen action in both France and Germany. He attended the Morgan High School. The citation which Randall has received is below. He served with the 276th Inft. Regt. of General Patch’s Seventh Army. “11 August 1945 Randall Wright, Private First Class, Company E, on February 6, 1945, learning of an intricate system of enemy trenchworks immediately to his company’s front Pfc. Wright with two comrades, moved out to reconnoiter the positions. Encountering heavy machine gun fire. Pfc Wright realizing that his companions were in grave danger, crawled forward under the hostile fire and with well placed rifle shots, silenced the enemy gun, killing two of the crew and taking three prisoners. Later in the day he moved to an exposed position, and by deliberately engaging a fortified enemy emplacement in fight, enabled his platoon to resume uts advance around the distracted position. His gallant action reflects a high standard of military service from Falmouth, KY. By order of Colonel Besset, James L. Richardson Jr., Colonel GSC, Acting Chief of Staff.

100 Years Ago - October 9, 1920

    J. L. Bogess has sold his home and lot in Shoemakertown to Frank Asberry of Double Beech. Price $3,000.
    David Cushman, well known young farmer of near Browning’s Corner, passed away Tuesday night. He was struck with the handle of a plow last summer while working in the field, and has been a great sufferer ever since, and died from the effects of spinal meningitis.
    Born to Mr. and Mrs. Justin Yeat, a fine son. Daddy wants to buy him a horde to ride.
    Francim M. Cram, a former resident of Pendleton County passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Covington on September 9. Mr. Cram was born on August 17, 1853 at Dividing Ridge, this County.
    Mr. and Mrs. George Ashcraft of near DeMossville have been entertaining a fine little son since September 11. This is son number two. Mr. Ashcraft is rather elated over his pair of lusty young fellows, but still wears his hat with comfort.
