FALMOUTH — Judge/Executive David Fields broke a tie last Tuesday as the court returned from closed session to vote on the purchase of land that will be the site of the county fire department.

Magistrates Josh Plummer and Darrin Gregg, District 2 and District 3, respectively, forced the judge’s hand in the vote as they voted against the purchase of approximately five acres just north of the high school.

Their concern was the price had increase: $15,000 per acre to $22,000 per acre from the beginning of the negotiations to the end.

County Attorney Stacey Sanning said she would have a contract ready to go out the next day, and she expressed concerns if they would sign. District 4 Magistrate Rick Mineer assured her they would.

According to Fields, the next item for the property is Procurement of Engineering Services, another step that will be presented to the court.

The court also received renewed terms for interlocal agreements with the City of Falmouth. Fields and Mayor Luke Price have worked together in an attempt to rebuild relationships and to restore the agreements after they were broken during the term of former mayor Sebastian Ernst.

These agreements are attempts to renew interlocal contracts for planning and zoning, code enforcement, and animal control. Falmouth City Council will discuss those.

The judge explained to the court these agreements are negotiable, reopening discussions between the county and the city, but they were presented with the costs as they were before.

The court opened and reviewed a bid from what appeared to be Motorola and MobileCom, and because of the two apparently different systems being in the same envelope, the court had many questions regarding the proposal.

The MobileCom bid is a proposal to update the telecommunications towers to prepare for the transition of dispatch to the Kentucky State Police system, allowing KSP to communicate with the fire departments, and it includes repeaters for all three. . .
