ALEXANDRIA — Corey Gray, a resident of Flour Creek Road in Butler, is being held in the Campbell County detention center on a $1 million bond on charges of attempted murder and wanton endangerment.

Police said Joseph Hutchins of 148 Ridgewood Drive, Alexandria, was shot three times in the head.

Hutchins was taken to UC Medical Center for treatment where he is listed in stable condition. Gray was arraigned Monday morning at 9 a.m., Judge Cameron J. Blau presiding.

Officers were called to that residence at approximately 8 p.m. Friday evening for a person who was reported to have suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Police said that a neighbor who heard the gunshots and saw a truck leaving the scene jumped into his own vehicle and followed the truck. According to accounts, the neighbor raced in front of the truck and hit the brakes, causing a collision. The neighbor then flagged down police.

Officers said they found the truck in the collision at U.S. 27 and East Alexandria Pike.

Gray was taken into custody at that location.

Alexandria Police Chief Lucas Cooper declined to say what connection there was between Gray and Hutchins, stating that the information was pertinent to the investigation and would be released later.

The shooting occurred outside the home, but some rounds fired hit the house, according to reports. There were three people inside the house at the time, police said.
