Three Rivers Health District presses pause on Johnson vaccine

    With the Center of Control Disease reviewing six reported U.S. cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot in indiviuals after receiving the J & & vaccine, Three Rivers District Health Department announced they are cancelling their mass vaccine events using the Johnson vaccine.
    In a press release they the district said, “Right now, these cases appear to be extremely rare. Anyone who has received the J&J vaccine who develoop severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain or shortness of breath within three weeks after the vaccination should contact their health care provider.”
    All six cases occurred among women between the ages of 18 and 48, and symptoms occurred six to 13 days after vaccination.
    Governor Andy Beshear said the nation’s top health officials told him and other governors in a teleconference meeting that the pause is expected to be days to possibly a week, and is not likely to be longer.
    “They believe that they will find the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to be safe to administer in the future,” said Beshear in an online news conference.
