AARP TaxAide volunteers will be preparing tax returns again this year at the Pendleton County Library in the community meeting room.
Returns are prepared free of charge. This free service is available to elderly persons and low-to-middle income taxpayers regardless of age.
The TaxAide preparation site will be open from 3 until 7 p.m. on Mondays beginning on February 3 through Monday, April 14.
Returns are prepared on the computer using tax preparation software. The return can also be E-filed free of charge. Refunds are received quicker if a return is E-filed.
You need to bring the following to have your return prepared: Government issued picture ID (driver’s license, state ID, etc.) Social Security card, Medicare card or Social Security Benefits Statement for everyone claimed on the return, W2’s, all 1099’s (for interest, dividends, pensions, miscellaneous income), Social Security statements, and any other income statements. If you wish to itemize deductions bring proof of the deductions, ie. mortgage interest, taxes on your home, medical expenses, and charitable contributions. Also please bring your 2012 tax return as some information may be needed from that return.
TaxAide volunteers are not trained to prepare farm, rental or business returns, therefore cannot prepare those returns.
