Tackett/Wright moving on to KHSAA State Tennis Meet

Play in region semifinals on Wednesday

The Ladycat Tennis doubles team of Sadie Wright and Baileigh Tackett stil have some work to do in the semifinals of the regional tennis tournament at 4 p.m. on Wednesday but they know a spot in the KHSAA State Tennis Meet is reserved for them. With a win over the #3 seeded team from Harrison County, the unseeded duo dug deep and pulled out the victory in a super tie break. The top four teams in each region advance to the state meet.

Wright/Tackett beat two seeded teams in their march to the region semifinals. They beat the #5 pair from Bourbon County 6-3, 6-2 in their first region match. The duo becomes the first female tennis players to reach the state tournament. They will play their semi-final match at Campbell County.

Doubles partners Alexis Magee and Mallory Kordes, who were seeded #6, also had a degree of success before falling just short of qualifying for the state meet. They easily won their first match 6-0, 6-0 against Nicholas County and played #2 seeded Montgomery County in the third round.

The girl’s single division saw number six seeded Josie Miller losing in the second round in a close match 7-5, 7-6.  Maddie Duff fell in the first round 6-0, 6-2.

Boy’s singles saw Mason Askren taking on J. Garrison in a tough first round match that saw Askren fall 5-7, 6-4, 0-1.

In the other match in the bracket, Eric Hurst  defeated A. Jones of Paris 6-0, 7-5 and moved to the second round where he was defeated by A. McDowell of Campbell County 6-0, 6-0.

The doubles teams for the boys, Jonathon Bayless and Jordan Pearson, won their first round match  6-0, 6-0. The second round saw the duo take on the sixth seeded pair from Montgomery County and lose 6-0, 6-2.

The other pairing saw Tyler Volz and Drew Duff  taking on the pair from GRC in a tight competitive match 7-5, 6-7(5), 10-7. They moved on to the second round where they were defeated by the fifth seeded pair from St. Patrick 6-2, 6-2.

Pendleton County High School tennis has become a factory of state tournament tennis appearances under Head Coach David Tackett and Assistant Coach Lisa Feltner. The duo of Dillon Feltner/Mike DeWald made two appearances at state in 2016 and 2017. David Franz and Garrett Marshall made a single appearance in 2016. This becomes the third pairing and fourth doubles appearance in the coaching duos tenure.
