Coach Jenna O’Hara’s Ladycats traveled back up to the Ninth Region last Wednesday to take on the Lady Tigers of Bellevue.
The Ladycats got off to a rough start missing 20 shots in the first quarter. They were getting open shots from the lane and perimeter just to watch the ball hit the rim and bounce off.
The Ladycats slowly started turning the tide in the second quarter as Sydney Manor connected on a three. The Ladycats were able to outscore the Lady Tigers and hold an 18-17 lead at half.
After half time for the second game in a row the Ladycats came out more agressive and ready to play than what they showed at the beginning of their games. Olivia Verst and Macie Wright were causing steals and fast break opportunities on the offensive end.
The Lady Tigers held tough, but the pressure stopped them from getting the ball into the post where they had a big advantage as seen in the first half.
Both teams entered the final quarter tied at 28. Saniah Thomas who wasn’t hitting her shots in the first half caught fire in the fourth scoring all nine of her points in the quarter. Skylar Ashcraft started causing problems with her ability to slash to the basket and ended up frequently on the free throw line throughout the game.
In the final minutes the Ladycats were able to establish control and started stretching out their lead to come out with a 51-39 victory.
The Ladycats ended the week playing at Williamstown looking to go 2-0 for the week.
The Ladycats were able to come away with a 52-39 win and were led in scoring by Saniah Thomas who scored 8 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter. Skylar Ashcraft 13 points and Cara Stewart with 13. Although he score stayed close for the first three quarters the Ladycats opened the fourth with an 8-0 run that seemed to break the Lady Demons.
Coach Jenna O’Hara remarked, “Our team grew up this week and I hope we can keep our team safe so we don’t lose the momentum we have going now.”
