“OK, Chloe,” I said, giving my best pep talk as we waited to be called onstage to perform our song and dance. “It’s the moment of truth. Remember, whatever happens, we did our best.”
“Contestant number 27,” we heard the announcer say. Chloe and I walked onstage and looked at the three judges. One judge was the governor of Kentucky, another was a cute blond girl who’d starred in several movies, and the third judge was a local guy from the electric company. We sang a medley of folk songs.
