Sharp Scholarship applications to be available
Applications for the 2016 Phillip Sharp Family Scholarship and the Class of 1962 Scholarship will be available through the Pendleton County High School Guidance Office the week of December 14. Eligibility for the scholarships is based on class rank, ACT scores, rigorous curriculum taken, and advanced placement classes completed in math and science.
The scholarships were established in 2011 by Dr. and Mrs. Phillip Sharp to encourage and aid Pendleton High School graduates to attend a four-year college or university and major in an area of math, science, engineering, or a medical field. Dr. Sharp is a 1962 graduate of Pendleton high School. The scholarship value is $6,000 per year or a total commitment of $24,000 per recipient. At this time the eight recipients of the scholarship are: Savannah Schlueter and Bryan Woods, 1012; Mariah Moore and Wyatt Hyatt, 2013; Chelsea Brossart and Colton Pugh, 2014; Melanie Mullins and Montgomery Franxman, 2015.
Eligible students will be contacted by the guidance office the week of December 14 and will receive a packet with required forms. The scholarship application packet is due by January 29, 2016 to the senior guidance counselor. The 2016 scholarship recipients will be selected and announced in early spring of 2016.
