October 24, 2014 a special day
Not many in the USA remember the fear that gripped the rural communities of our nation in the 1940s and 1950s. I was in grade school and high school and a disease was sweeping our nation, creating almost a sense of panic like the Ebola scare is creating today. Like Ebola, it was more prevalent in households and communities that were substandard in hygiene and cleanliness. And many communities in Appalachia, and elsewhere, did not have indoor plumbing and purified water to drink.
