Robert Hines, 57

Robert Hines, 57, of Butler, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Veterans Hospital, Cincinnati, after a hard fought battle with cancer.
He was born September 7, 1960, in Cincinnati, to Albert T. and Edna R. (Douglas) Hines. His parents preceded him, along with one sister, in death.
Robert joined the Army on November 22, 1978, at the age of 18, and was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas, and retired May 30, 1991, as a Sargent from the Armored Tank Division, stationed in Ft. Carson, Colo. He also traveled overseas while active in the Army. It was while in the Army he developed a passion for tanks and enjoyed constructing plastic models of various tanks.
Robert lived in many places but his favorite was Okeechobee, Fla. This is where he developed another passion of his which was turtles. He worked at a lock on the west side of Lake Okeechobee and he would see the tiny turtles trying to cross the busy highway from their nest. He would help them as much as he could. At his passing he had four turtles as pets and a friend made sure to give them a good home so he didn’t have to worry about them in his final days.
Robert was a member of the Butler Baptist Church and a former employee of the City of Butler. All of whom mourn his passing.
Graveside services and interment were conducted by Rev. Daryl Mullins, of Butler Baptist Church on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown.
Peoples Funeral Home is assisting the family.
