Falmouth — Melvin Ramsey, 90, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025, at UC Medical Center just ten days before his 91st birthday.
Born on January 14, 1934, in Bracken County, he was the son of the late Virgil and Nicy Teegarden Ramsey.
He was married to Hazel Showalter on April 19, 1958. Melvin and Hazel worked side by side on the family farm for 66 years taking care of each other until the very end. Melvin served in the Army during the Korean War, was a life-long farmer, member of the Oakland Christian Church and was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, daughter, Terri Massey; sisters, Nannie Jenkins, Dorothy Clifford, Kathleen Barnard, Geraldine Cummins, Edna Lou Ramsey; brothers, Harry Ramsey, Earl Junior Ramsey, Eugene Ramsey and Raymond Ramsey.
Survivors are his wife, Hazel Ramsey; daughter, Cheri (Gary) Figgins; son-in-law, Rodney Massey; sisters-in law, Frances Ramsey, Letta Ramsey; grandchildren, Ryan (Rachel) Figgins, Brandon (Haley) Figgins, Tyler (Kelly) Figgins, Kylie Figgins, Jordan (Marsha) Massey, Rachel (Brent) Slusher, Amanda (Jeff) Holthaus, Samantha (Tim) Cooper; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with Gary Figgins officiating and full military honors by the Hardin-Browning Post #109.
Burial will take place privately at Showalter Cemetery.
