Love at 80 years of age

The two have known each other since 1946 and despite going in separate directions in life, they admit they had always wondered about each other through the years.

A wedding that was over seven decades in the making came to fruition on June 2 as James "Jimmy" Lowe, 88, tied the knot with Elaine "Jessie" Meinze, 84, in a story that proves it's never too late for love.

The two have known each other since 1946 and despite going in separate directions in life, they admit they had always wondered about each other through the years. Mr. Lowe went on to achieve a decorated career in the United States Army where he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Meinze started a family while working many years at a nursing home, Wal-Mart and most recently, Dollar General. ]

Meinze had been widowed since 1984 and Mr. Lowe since 2003, in 2011, he decided to take a chance and try reconnect with the woman he playfully describes as a "tomboy" growing up. After three attempts, he found her address and decided to visit her.

"It was around Halloween when I went to see her and as I walked up to the front door there was a decoration she put out that said
"The Witch is in," I stopped for a brief second but decided to go on anyway," Lowe said with a laugh.
