UPDATED: High school student hit by car on Monday morning
UPDATED: 2:30 p.m. With a Pendleton County Schools bus straddling the middle line between the two lanes in front of Pendleton County High School, a driver heading north did not see the flashing lights indicating the bus was stopped to pick up a high school student.
Lisa Carol King’s vehicle struck the 18-year-old student while he was attempting to board the bus.
According to the mother of the student, “He is going to be okay.” He was transported to Children’s Hospital by Pendleton County EMS.
She later told the Falmouth Outlook they were heading home and he had some scrapes.
King has been arrested and charged with Passing a Loading/Unloading School/Church Bus First Offense, Wanton Endangerment First Degree and Assault First Degree. No bond was set.
Superintendent Joe Buerkley released a statement that said, “The district would like to remind drivers to use caution when in school zones or when approaching a school bus. These buses are carrying precious cargo and we do not want incidents such as this to occur.”
A high school student was hit by a car passing a school bus on Monday morning. The student is being taken to Children's Hospital for evaulation but reports indicated he is going to be okay.
The Pendleton County Sheriff Office is investigating the incident.
Contrary to early reports the student was NOT hit by a school bus.
