The Pendleton County High School cheerleading team competed in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) Region 5 championship at Pulaski County High School on May 1. It was their first in-person competition since their national competition in February of 2020.
They competed in the Game Day Division and placed first in the championship, beating Montgomery County and Mason County.
According to head coach Abby Belcher, 18 of their girls competed (one was injured and another one was competing All-Star at the D1 Summit at Disney World).
“The girls performed an awesome routine with even a glitch in the music system and still came out on top,” Coach Belcher explained.
“This just showed how much they have learned throughout competing in virtual competitions with UCA since January and how hard they have worked since last June.”
Coach Belcher continued, “I couldn’t be more proud of this team, and I’m blessed to work with an incredible group of girls!”
PCHS will next compete at the Kentucky High School Athletic Association State cheer competition on May 13 at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester. A total of 24 teams will compete in the Game Day Division.
“Usually the top two teams go from each combined region group, but this year, they prorated some regions based on the number of teams competing overall,” Coach Belcher said.
Good luck to the PCHS cheerleaders in state competition!
