Orion Masonic Lodge #222, located on Chapel Street in Falmouth gave away eight bicycles and helmets at Southern Elementary School for students who had completed at least 90% or more of their assignments. Principal Mark Hegyi and Guidance Counselor Johora Paeda determined how it would be broken up so as many students as possible would have a chance to win a bike.
The excitement built, the breaths were held, the names were chosen, then it happened, when the names were read out loud. See the picture below to see who won bikes and helmets as seven lucky kids jumped for joy.
The Orion Lodge has 75 members and does many fundraisers throughout the year in order to be able to purchase these bikes and helmets each year and present two scholarships to the high school every end of the school year. One for $1,000. and one for $500 in the name of Steve Hart. The cost of the bikes totaled up to $2,700. A couple of these fundraisers include selling fireworks and a yearly drawing for Field and Stream products, Walt’s Hitching post gift certificate and a Yeti cooler. Rick Halcomb and TJ Shelby are on the committee to make sure the bike and helmets give away is accomplished.
The head of the local Lodge is called the Master and he serves a term of one year.  The local Master is currently Scott Mayes.
