The school calendar for 2020-21 has had to undergo major revision as Covid-19 has wreaked havoc on the school’s ability to be in session and offering in-person classes. More changes will most likely happen as the school year continues, but the Pendleton County Board of Education had to set a calendar for 2021-22.
As it passed, Board Chairperson Cheri Griffin said, “I hope that we get to use it and not a single day is changed on this calendar.”
The 2021-22 calendar has student’s first day of classes on Wednesday, August 11.
Fall Break will include the Wool Fest Friday, October 1 and the next week of Monday, October 4 through Friday, October 8.
Thanksgiving break is as normal with school not in session on Wednesday, November 24 through Friday, November 26.
Board member Karen Delaney questioned about no Election Day and Superintendent Joe Buerkley indicated there are no elections in Kentucky in 2021; thus, no day off for Election Day is needed.
Christmas break runs from Monday, December 20 through Friday, December 31.
School is scheduled off for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 17, 2022 and Presidents’ Day on Monday, February 21, 2022.
Spring Break is set for Monday, April 4 through Friday, April 8, 2022.
The last day for students is scheduled for Tuesday, May 17, 2022 but with weather days and Covid still possibly lurking, it will change.
In other board action, Pendleton County Schools received a matching grant from KETS for $15,327.
Buerkley indicated that the funds are restricted for use in the purchase of student technology.
A final payment of $16,264 was made for the  completion of the roof at Sharp Middle School.
The Board approved the Pendleton Recreation agreement. There were no changes to the school aspect with some changes made by the City of Falmouth.
The board will provide facilities on a mutually agreed upon schedule, not to exceed $15,500 for partical salary of groundskeeper at Pendleton Athletic Park, provide 1/3 of any major maintenance and/or repair cost and 1/3 of major purchases, and provide for cost associated with fuel and general maintenance of groundskeeping equipment at athletic park.
Resident contracts with Campbell County, Williamstown, Harrison County, and Grant County were approved.
