Wildcat Football shows off strength in lift-a-thon
PCHS Wildcat Football is having their annual lift-a-thon on June 2. Players compete within their weight classes attempting their best lifts in the bench press, power clean, squat, and dead lift. Their goals are set by the player and the coaching staff.
“These young men have been moving weight since November, two weeks after our previous season ended. Their hard work and dedication to this program is shown through the work they have put in thus far. The lift-a-thon is a great way to quantify that effort. It puts a number value and a dollar amount on their goals. ” says strength and conditioning coach Kyle Pettit.
Players ask family, fans, and supporters to sponsor them by pledging either a flat amount or an amount per pound. Many players’ total lifts are over 1,000 pounds. All the money raised goes to paying for the team’s summer training camp – this year will be at Morehead State University.
Head coach Brian Burgemeir says “supporting a player is an excellent way for anyone to contribute to the success of our program. Our training camp provides growth opportunities for us both as football players and young men. It’s a wonderful experience.”
