Lifetime of dedication leads to award for Bill Owen

Rural areas generally have a disadvantage with a lack of resources, opportunities, and programs. Must struggle to overcome those obstacles. However, those rural counties that have success whether it is educationally or academically, do so because there are people who dedicated their life and their time to the kids.

Pendleton County has been blessed for 50+ years with Bill Owen serving as one of those who has spent the vast majority of their life sacrificing for the kids both educationally and athletically. The success of many of the Ladycats and Wildcats athletic programs can found at least part of their origin in the gym of Northern Elementary where he spent years as the Physical Education teacher as well as the gyms where the basketball teams practiced.
