Not licensing your dog(s) could result in a hundreds in fine

    Per a standing county ordinance from Pendleton County Fiscal Court, if you have a dog, you MUST get it licensed or face fines.
    The ordinance, 841.0 Section 14 says that “on or before July 1 of each year, the owner of any dog, six months old or older kept in Pendleton County shall apply to the Animal Control Officer....for a license for each dog or kennel owned, harbored or operated by him, acquire the license and pay the fees as set out” in the ordinance.
    The fees include:
    Individual dog license (1-9 dogs) $8 each.
    Individual dog alteration license $5 each.
    Kennel license (10 more dogs) $20 plus $1 for each dog house.

    The dog owner must present rabies vaccination certificate in order to purchase a dog license.
    According to the ordinance, a person violating or refusing to comply with ordinance 841.0 Section 14 could be fined not less than $100 but not more of $500 upon conviction or be sentenced to 90 days in jail or both. Each separate violation or each day that a violation exists shall be a separate offense.
