Winter lifesavers needed for blood drive
Winter weather and colds and flu can negatively impact the blood supply. Ice and snow often cause schools and businesses to close which can affect scheduled blood drives. When colds and flu hit, donation numbers can dip because people aren’t healthy enough to give blood.
To help alleviate blood shortages during the winter, area residents are invited to save lives at the upcoming Kentucky Blood Center blood drive.
The blood drive will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2 on the KBC Bloodmobile at Pendleton County High School, 2359 Hwy 27 North in Falmouth.
To schedule a donation, visit kybloodcenter.org or call 800-775-2522. Walk-ins are also welcome.
Blood donors must be 17-years-old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org
