Barnard continues the family tradition with Pendleton County Schools

UPDATED

Kevin Barnard will be assuming a Pendleton County Board of Education seat just like his father, Gary, did several years ago. His mother, Ann, was a school teacher at Southern Elementary for many years.

With his election to the Division 2 seat on the Pendleton County Board of Education, he will be part of an almost complete makeover of the leadership of the school district.

Superintendent Joe Buerkley is in his first year and while Karen Delaney and Cheri Griffin will be returning to their seats, Barnard will join first year board members Amber Beebe and Laura Schack.

"On behalf of Pendleton County Schools and the Board of Education I would like to welcome Laura Schack and Kevin Barnard as our newest board members.  The Pendleton Board of Education has established a legacy of commitment to educational leadership, community responsibility, and child advocacy.  I am sure that Mrs. Schack and Mr. Barnard will assist in maintaining and building on that legacy into the future," said Superintendent Joe Buerkley.  "I also want to thank Jodi Bertram and Elmer Utz for their service to the Pendleton Board of Education.  They have both served to meet the changing needs of our students and community."

Barnard beat current Board Chairperson Jodi Bertram 456 to 349.

“I appreciate the support you get. This is my first time running for anything like this. I look forward to jumping in and getting start,” said Barnard.
