Pendleton County  Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, June 21.
The meeting began with two young men, Thomas McNay and Noah Peluso, celebrating as they received their diplomas from Superintendent Joe Buerkley for completing the 22 and out program.
This program allows participants to complete high school with 22 core credits but does not include the privelege of walking in full graduation ceremony with their classmates.
“Traditional classes are not for everyone, so we offer this 22 and out program so more  students have a chance at graduating. With this 22 and out program, you have to keep on going and that is exactly what these two young men have done,”  stated Mr. Buerkley.
David Shipp addressed the Board with information on a series of articles he is going to write for the Falmouth Outlook concerning school boards and what they can and can not do. He received the Leadership Guide book and Karen Delaney agreed to assist him in the articles.
Shipp stated he will be writing a series of stories on the Civil War and volunteered his services to the school should they need his expetise with the subject.  He also invited all to join a Civil War Historical weekend in September in Augusta featuring a vocal group from Harrison County called Lafferty Pike.  The Board graciously thanked him for all of the information he shared with them.
At this point in the board meetings all board members are given an opportunity to make comments.  Generally, when there has been great success, congratulations are given or special achievements, thank you’re are passed out.  Whatever the opportunity, the Board members do not hesitate to recognize people who have gone above and beyond to achieve these things.  The same holds true for Mr. Berkeley as he talked about graduation, athletics, and all the many challenges faced this past school year.  He expressed his thanks and appreciation to anyone who helped in anyway.  He stated, “It was a challenging year last year, but all in all, it was a great year.”
