The Pendleton County Wildcats won their third and fourth games of the season as they defeated Lewis County 4-3 and Bishop Brossart 4-1 and now sit at 4-10 on the season.

“Ethan Verst threw an awesome game with Colton Turner closing it out at the end, no errors, the boys hit well,” Coach Logan Shipley said after the Lewis County game on April 10.

Verst pitched six innings and struck out 10 batters. Also, junior Austin Kirsch drove in three runs in the victory.

In the Bishop Brossart game on April 13, sophomore Cole Harlow pitched a complete game, allowing only seven hits and one run. Verst was 3 for 3 hitting and drove in a run.

”We played against a good Brossart team and came out on top. The boys love to play when it’s warm. Harlow was on the mound there the entire game with six K’s and it boosted his confidence extremely,” Shipley said. “Hopefully we can carry this momentum into next week when we start off our work Wednesday at Calvary Christian.”

The Wildcats also played arch rival Harrison County on April 11 and lost the game 10-1 in six innings.

“We fought hard through a few innings and fell apart mentally, we are hitting the ball good as a team, just right at the defense,” Shipley said. “My biggest positive thing between both of these games is we’ve had no errors, which is a huge plus for us.” Senior Connor Neltner had two hits in the loss and Verst drove in a run for the Wildcats.

This week, the Wildcats have three road games beginning with an April 19 matchup at Calvary Christian. On April 21, the team travels to face Trimble County and will conclude play this week at Williamstown on April 22.
