The Pendleton County Ladycats live to see another week with their defeat over Robertson County in the first round of the district tournament. Unfortunately, the team fell short to Harrison County in the championship game. However, their district runner-up achievement earned them a spot in the 10th region tournament, which begins this week.

The Ladycats defeated Robertson County 3-1 (25-13, 25-23, 20-25, 25-19) this past Tuesday. Junior Allison Aulick led the offense with 12 kills, and added nine assists, nine digs, and three blocks to her stat line as well. Senior Skyla Harrison had eight kills and Gracie Cotterman had six kills. Senior Lindsey Arkenau accumulated 18 assists. Junior libero Madison Verst led the defense with 18 digs.

On Thursday evening, the Ladycats suffered a tough 0-3 (19-25, 16-25, 13-25) loss to Harrison County. Allison Aulick led the offense once again with her eight kills and nine assists. Junior Kearstin Mayer followed her up with six kills of her own. Junior Brianna Gregg collected a career-high three kills. The defense was led by Madison Verst who had 35 digs.

The Ladycats will open up the 10th region tournament on Monday evening when they take on Bracken County. Head coach Julie Krift and her Lady Polar Bears come into the regional tournament as the 39th district champions, and with a 22-15 season record. When the two teams faced off last month, the Ladycats came away with a 3-0 win. Macy Lucas poses the biggest offensive threat with her 2.72 kills per set. Nicole Archibald plays a heavy role for Bracken County with her 3.41 assists per set. At the net, the Ladycats will face off against Jordan Ahrens who has 33 solo blocks this season. The last time that Pendleton County and Bracken County faced each other in the 10th region tournament was in 2019 when the Lady Polar Bears came away with a tough 3-2 victory. Pendleton County will look to redeem themselves in this week’s matchup.

Fans, be sure to come show your Ladycats some support this week! The team’s first round game against Bracken County is Monday night at 6 p.m. All regional tournament games will be played at Harrison County High School. If Pendleton County defeats Bracken County, then they will move on to face the winner of Scott High vs Bourbon County in Wednesday’s semifinal game.

This will be the 10th appearance at the regional tournament for the Ladycats who are still seeking their first victory at this level.
