Ladycats doubles team qualifies for state tournament

The Pendleton County tennis team competed in regional tournament play on May 13-15 at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester.  The Ladycats representatives would have success as the senior doubles team of Maddie Duff and Emmie Dunn won a pair of matches to qualify for the state tournament.

The team of Duff and Dunn won regional matches over Mason County and Scott to qualify for a state tournament match on May 31. The doubles team of Lily Brinkdoepke and Katelin Aulick entered play as the two seed. They won their first match 6-2, 6-2 however they would fall to Mason County 6-4, 7-5. In singles play, Ladycats senior Morgan Hart picked up a first round win 6-0, 6-0 but would fall to the four seed from Campbell County in second round play. Fellow senior Emma Gillespie fell in her first round to Nicholas County.

In boys action, senior Ethan Aulick, who entered as the Wildcats’ top ranked tennis player, breezed through the first round of regional play 6-0, 6-0 but lost in second round to the four seed from Bourbon County. Eighth grader and second seed Braydon Askren lost in his opening round matchup as well as the top doubles team of seniors Vincent Nocero and Bradford Peoples. In other doubles action, the team of Joey Record and Gavin Webster received a first round bye but ended up losing in the second round to Nicholas County.
