William Woodyard, 75, Grant's Lick

William H. Woodyard, 75, of Grants Lick, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008 at St. Luke Hospital-Hospice.

He was the son of Carl Woodyard and Bessie Williams Shoemaker. He was employed at American Laundry, a Grants Lick farmer, owner/operator of his own water service and a US Army Veteran.

William was preceded in death by a brother, Carl (Junior) Woodyard; sisters, Lorretta Ewing and Eulta Mae Lewis.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie Woodyard of Grant's Lick; a son, Chis (Kelly) Woodyard of Grant's Lick; daughters, Tammy (Jim) Wagner of Grant's Lick and Debbie (Rick) Montgomery also of Grant's Lick; brothers, James Franklin Woodyard of Warsaw, Douglas C. Shoemaker of Texas, LeRoy Woodyard of Ga., Ronnie Woodyard of Ga. and Eddie Woodyard of Alexandria; sisters, Patricia Trimble of Newport, Ruthie Kulosa of Edgewood, Godie Hehman of Texas, Susie Ashcraft of Dayton, Ky, Jenny Powell of Taylor Mill, Mary Browning of Newport, Margaret Maxwell and Linda Young both of Grant's Lick; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 9, 2008 at Peoples Funeral Home in Butler.

Burial took place at Oakland Cemetery in Grants Lick.

Memorial suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass Northern Ky, 85 Grand Ave. Ft. Thomas, KY 41075.

 

Terry L. Lowen, 58, Covington

Terry L. Lowen "Huckel T. Berry" - stage name, 58, of Covington, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008 at a friends house in Boone County.

He was the son of the late Carl and Rachael Jackson Lowen. He was a professional bass player musician of the "1963 Finder Precision Bass."

Terry is survived by his son, Eric Tedescio of Boston, Mass.; a brother, Michael Hockenberry of Taylor Mill; a sister, Cindy Hamm of Union and two grandchildren.

Memorial service is to be announced at a later date. Peoples Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.

 

Shelby F. McKinney, 80, Fla.

Shelby F. McKinney, 80 of Trenton, Fla., passed away May 16, 2008 in Gainesville.

He was born in Connersville, Ind. to John and Lula Mae McKinney, he moved to Trenton in 1990 from Falmouth, Ky. and was a retired Quality Control Engineer. He served his country in the US Navy. He served as past post commander of American Legion Post 91, member of Loom Moose Lodge #325 and V.F.W #5625. He was a member of the Neave United Methodist Church.

Shelby was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lula (Blades) McKinney; a daughter, Shelly and a son Andy Francis.

He is survived by his wife, Anne McKinney of Trenton; daughters, Deborah Haag of Trenton and Sylvia Gonzalez of Hendersonville, N.C.; sons, Roy of DeRidder, La. and Gordon of Pensacola, Fla.; step son, Gerald Wayne Booker of Nicholasville, Ky; sisters, Juanita Faye Whitley, Ruth A. Woods, both of Mason Ohio and Nancy Kampsen of Norfolk, Va.; brother Elmo McKinney and John McKinney both of Falmouth; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 23 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services with Pastor Alpheus Atkins officiating.

Burial took place at Joppa Baptist Cemetery in Trenton.

 

John Windgassen, 92, Alexandria

John "Boob"" Windgassen, 92, of Alexandria, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport.

He was the son of the late Gus Windgassen and the late Ida (Noertker) Windgassen.

John was a retired employee of Cincinnati Inc., Harrison, Ohio. He was also a farmer. He served in the Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn (Prebble) Windgassen in 2005.

John is survived by daughters, Janet (Windgassen) Cook of Walton, Brenda (Windgassen) Stumpf of Foster, a son, Roger Windgassen of Alexandria; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Alexandria Funeral Home in Alexandria.

Funeral Services will follow also at the Funeral Home. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery in Grant's Lick. Memorials are suggested to : Baptist Convalescent Center 120 Main Street Newport, KY or to Grant's Lick Baptist Church 941 Clay Ridge Road Alexandria, KY 41001.

 

Mary Hurst, 83, Covington

Mary Hudson Moore Hurst, 83, of Covington, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2008, at the Twin Lakes of Montgomery. She was the daughter of the late Charles Hudson and Sadie Lee Bishop Moore. She married Hazen Hurst in 1951, and her dear husband survives her passing. For 46 years, she worked as an Accounts Payable Manager for Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Mary was a member of the Madison Avenue Christian Church in Covington, Kentucky, where she formerly served as treasurer and a Sunday School teacher. She received the designation of Kentucky Colonel.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Moore and her sister, Frances Wilamena Knock.

Mary is survived by her husband, Hazen; a daughter, Karen (David) Hills of Indian Hill, Ohio; two grandchildren, Allison Lee Hills and Brian David Hills and her sister, Dorothy McDermott of Ft. Wright.

Visitation will be from 12-1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the Woodhead Funeral Home in Falmouth.

Funeral services will follow also at the funeral home with Rev. Mike Delaney officiating. The pallbearers will be David Hills, Ron McDermott, Johnnie Knock, Barry McDermott, Don McDermott and Tom Hurst.

Interment will take place in the Morgan Cemetery in Pendleton County. Memorials are suggested to the Morgan Cemetery or the charity of your choice.

 

Vivian Cummins, 91, Brooksville

Vivian Irene Cummins, 91, of Brooksville, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2008.

She was the daughter of the late Ben and Grace Story Cummins. She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church and a Kentucky Colonel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Earl Cummins; a baby daughter, Janet Irene and two sisters, Macie Dean and Dana Cummins.

She is survived by a daughter, Connie (Lanny) Jett of Brooksville; sons, Russell Dale "Butch" (Lois) Cummins of Brooksville, Jerry Wayne Cummins of Nicholasville and Danny Earl (Kathy) Cummins of Omaha, Neb; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Moore & Parker Funeral Home and 10:30-11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the church.
