Daniel Jacob Wood, 16, Falmouth

Daniel Jacob Wood, 16, of Falmouth, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008 in Pendleton County.

He was the son of Dwight and Toni Wood. Daniel was a member of First Love Community Fellowship and a former member of NJROTC. He was also a Pendleton County Bus Monitor and a student at Pendleton County Memorial High School.

Daniel was preceded in death by his Grandfather, Danny Dalewood; Great Grandmothers, Edna Shuler and Magdalene Cayton.

He is survived by a brother, Travis David Wood of Falmouth; a sister, Jordan Elizabeth Wood of Falmouth; Grandparents, Phil and Kathy Gilliland of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Marlene Lozier of Warsaw and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Peoples Funeral Home in Falmouth.

Burial took place Monday, May 5, 2008 at the Independence Cemetery in Independence.

 

Charles E. Bay, 98, Butler

Charles E. Bay, 98, of Butler, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008 at River Valley Nursing Home.

He was the son of the late Michael Bay and the late Mary Meyer Bay. He was a longtime resident of Pendleton County and a member of the Flour Creek Christian Church. He co-founded River Valley Nursing Home and Licking Valley Oil.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Bay; a son, Robert L. Bay; two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Betty D. Bay of Butler; a grandchild, David L. (Tina) Bay of Butler; Great Grandchildren, Morgan, Spencer and Robert Bay of Butler; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Peoples Funeral Home.

Burial took place at the Butler Cemetery. Memorials, if desired are suggested to River Valley Nursing Home, 305 Taylor Street, Butler, KY 41006.

 

Jack M. Sumpter, 77, DeMossville

Jack M. Sumpter, 77, of DeMossville, passed away Friday, May 2, 2008 in DeMossville.

He was the son of the late Milton Sumpter and the late Stella Sumpter. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a heavy equipment operator. Jack was a former Church Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, a Kentucky Colonel and a Former Pendleton County Magistrate.

Jack is survived by his wife, Connie Bowen Sumpter of DeMossville; a son, Shane Sumpter of Independence; daughters, Kim Sumpter of Sparta, Pam Richerson of Ind., Stella Whiley of Alexandria; Stepson, Stacey Wilson of Gardnersville, Scott Wilson of Gardnersville; brothers, Robert Sumpter of Florence, Lee Sumpter of Inez, Ky; sisters, Virginia Brobst and Wilda Vest both of Columbus, Ohio; 11 Grandchildren and several Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 5, 2008 at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown. Burial took place at the Gardnersville Cemetery in Pendleton County.

Allen Veirs, 68, Alexandria

Allen "Whitney" Veirs, 68, of Alexandria, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at University Hospital in Cincinnati.

He was a member of the Alexandria Masonic Lodge and an avid coffee drinker. He visited either McDonald's or White Castle every morning to drink coffee with his friends.

Allen was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Becky Veirs.

He is survived by his wife, Mazie (Cryer) Veirs; two daughters, Missy Durham of Alexandria and Tina McMillian of California, Ky; sons, Jeff Veirs of Alexandria, Craig Veirs of Alexandria, Allen Cooper of Cynthiana; one brother, Bob Wagner of Silver Grove and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 5, 2008 at the Alexandria Funeral Home in Alexandria.

Interment took place at Alexandria Cemetery in Alexandria.

A.G. Fugate, 72, Alexandria

A.G. Fugate, 72, of Alexandria, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Saint Luke East in Fort Thomas.

He was a retired employee of Jim Beam National Distillery where he had worked for 44 years.

A.G. is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bobbie Jean (Noble) Fugate; one daughter, Patricia Ann (Fugate) Camarca of Cleves, Ohio; one son, Ricky Fugate of Alexandria; two grandchildren, Alecia Marie and Margaret Ann Camarca both of Cleves and one greatgrandchild, Francis Ann Marie Camarca of Cleves.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at the Alexandria Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at the Alexandria Funeral Home in Alexandria.

Helen E. Schraer, 80, Alexandria

Helen E. Schraer, 80, of Alexandria, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at St. Elizabeth South Hospital.

She was a homemaker and the daughter of the late William and Ivalou Clark.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Schraer; sons, John Clark and Jerry Schraer.

She is survived by sons; Larry Schraer of Hamilton, Ohio, Donald (Debbie) Schraer of Alexandria, Phil Rogers of Alexandria; daughters, Cathy (Tom) Garringer of Dayton, Ohio, Sharon (Bob) Marshall of Newport, Linda Holzschuh of Highland Heights, Debbie (Bob) Diesman of Highland Heights; 26 Grandchildren; 12 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 2, 2008 at Peoples Funeral Home in Butler.

Burial took place at Grandview Mentor Cemetery in California, Ky.

 

Fannie Ashbrook, 68, Ryland Heights

Fannie Lynn Ashbrook, 68, of Ryland Heights, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008 at her residence.

She was the daughter of Virgie Cole and the late Alson Cole Jr. She was a member of the First Church of God in Latonia and a past member of the Oak Ridge Fire Department.

Fannie was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Cole and Elwood Cole.

She is survived by two sons, Kelvin Ashbrook of Ryland Heights and Barry Ashbrook of Florence; a daughter, Rebecca Eversole of Rock Bridge, Ohio; sisters, Betty Hannah, Verna Lewis, Karen Stevenson, Debbie Gill, Linda Fraley; brothers, Alson Cole, Darryl Cole, Jeff Cole, Virgil Cole, Ronnie Cole, Ricky Cole, Lonnie Cole and Greg Cole; 16 Grandchildren and nine Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 5, 2008 at First Church of God in Latonia.

Burial took place at Hebron Lutheran Cemetery. Cooper Funeral Home was in charge of serving the family.

 

Catherine Smith, 87, Fla

Catherine "Pat" Smith, 87, formerly of Falmouth and Dry Ridge, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008 in Inverness, Fla.

She was the daughter of the late Thomas W. Cahill and the late Catherine "Carrie" Melrose Kelly Cahill.

Catherine was a World War II Navy veteran and an entrepreneur of small business including the Carlsbad Nursing Home and the Falmouth Rest Home. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Falmouth and St. Williams Church in Williamstown.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Melrose Jacobs of Falmouth and Jane Green of Cincinnati; brothers, J.W. "Bill" Cahill of Butler, J.F. "Pete" Cahill of Williamstown.

Catherine is survived by a son, Randall Smith and daughter-in-law, Kay Parsons Smith of Crystal River, Fla.; daughters, Tricia Schild of Batesville, Ind., Melanie Bingham of Cleveland, Ohio; seven Grandchildren and 12 Great-Grandchildren.

Services were held on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at St. John's Catholic Church in DeMossville.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations to her memory can be made to the American Diabetes Association or to St. John's Catholic Church cemetery preservation fund.

 

Neil Kamphaus Sr., 74, Ohio

Neil R. Kamphaus Sr., 74, of Pierce Township, Ohio, passed away April 29, 2008. He was a former Tate Township Trustee, former Board of Education President, and a member of St. Mary Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Kamphaus; sons, Neil R. Kamphaus Jr., Carl Kamphaus David Kamphaus and Todd Kamphaus; 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; five brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held on May 5, 2008 at St. Mary Church in Bethel. Interment took place at Tate Township Cemetery. Memorials to American Heart Association

Carl James Stakelin, 63, of Falmouth, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008 at UK Medical Center in Lexington.

No public services were held. Woodhead Funeral Home in Falmouth carried out the arrangements.

 

Johnny Lee Staggs, 65, Brooksville

Johnny Lee Staggs, 65, of Brooksville, passed away Friday, May 2, 2008 at his home. He was the son of the late Benjamin and Pearlie Earls Staggs and was an S.A.L. Member in Unit 147 Hateville, Ga.

He is survived by his wife Ethel Catherine Holland Staggs; sons, Roy Lee (Peggy) Staggs of Fayetteville, Ga, Donald Wilson Staggs of Seattle, Wash., Johnny Lee (Laura) Staggs, Jr. of Butler; daughters, Jeannie (Wyatt) Bryan of Atlanta, Ga., Joyce Ann Ball of Brooksville; brothers, Alton (Nancy) Staggs, Russell (Jeannie) Staggs, both of Mt. Olivet; three grandchildren, Roy Donald, Michael Lee, and Zachary Staggs, and one great grandchild Alexis Marie Staggs. He is also survived by a special niece Whitney Staggs.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 5 at the Palmer Funeral Home in Germantown.

Joellyn Lambert, 73, Newport

Joellyn Jane Lambert, 73, of Newport, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008 at St. Luke Hospice Unit.

She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Scherk Holmes.

Joellyn was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylord Antrobus and a son, Barry Lee Bacher.

She is survived by daughters, Delia G. Green of Newport, Angela Vane Starns of Covington, Linda Marie Lalley of Ft. Thomas; sons, David Allen Bacher of Nashville, Tenn., Bruce Eric Bacher (RuthAnn) of Bowling Greene, Ky, Robert Leroy Lambert (Michelle) of Nashville; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Aylesworth (David) of ShallowWater, Texas, Geneva Joan Thompson (Eugene) of Seattle, Washington; 12 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 2, 2008 at Peoples Funeral Home in Butler. A cremation ceremony was held.
