Leora Daniels Kidd, 62, Cincinnati

Leora "Joy" Daniels Kidd, 62, of Cincinnati, formerly of Falmouth, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2008. She was born June 7, 1945 in Pendleton County, and graduated from Falmouth High School. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Juanita Daniels. Leora and her husband, Tommy Kidd of Cincinnati would have celebrated their 35th Wedding Anniversary in April. Leora was a cherished mom, mamaw, and Nana. She enjoyed crafts, Xavier basketball, and was a wonderful cook and host to all.

She is survived by daughters, Cami Strong and Krista Lorenz both of Cincinnati, Ohio; son-in-law Howard Lorenz and three grandchildren; Leah, Porter and Josephine; sister, Rebecca K. Sullivan of Lakeland, Fla.; three brothers, Philip Daniels of Falmouth, Danny Daniels and Garry Daniels of Cincinnati, Ohio, and her nieces, nephews, stepmother, and many other beloved friends and family members.

Joy's funeral took place, March 6, 2008 at Staley-Crowe Funeral Home in Deer Park, Ohio. Interment took place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Delbert H. Bell, 71, Florence

Delbert H. Bell, 71, of Florence, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Center in Edgewood.

He was the son of the late Robert and Adele Ritchie Bell, and a short order cook for 46 years in Chicago, Il, and a veteran of the Korean Conflict as a member of United States Air Force.

Delbert is survived by three sons, Dale Alan Bell of Tucson, Ariz., William Scott Bell of Jacksonville, Fla, Jeffrey Keith Bell of Falmouth; brother, Erdie Bell of Stillville, Mo.; four sisters, Laveda Ruth Bell Buffalo of Madison, Ark., Verna Evelyn Bell Masterson of Florence, Betty J. Bell of Falmouth and Carletta Faye Wells of Cincinnati, Ohio; grand daughters, Amanda and Aimee Bell, Angie and Sheena Bell; step-grandson, Robby Crysel and Mike Walczak II and great grandson, Adrion Keith Bell; a step-son, William D. Fonner, and step-daughter, Elizabeth Fonner.

Funeral Services were held Monday, April, 2008 at Woodhead Funeral Home in Falmouth. Honorary pallbearers were Jeffrey K. Bell, Dale A. Bell, Brian Wells, William S. Bell, Robby Crysel and William D. Fonner.

Interment will full military honors by the Hardin-Browning Post #109 took place in the Bartersville Cemetery in Nicholas County. Chaplin Shelby McDowell Officiated.

 

Elizabeth "Libby" Pleasants, 82, Junction City

Elizabeth Mae "Libby" Faulkner Pleasants, 82, of Stewarts Lane, Junction City, Ky, formerly of Crab Orchard, passed away, Friday, March 14, 2008 at the UK Medical Center.

She was born in Pendeton County on November 22, 1925, the daughter of the late Walter Ethel and Effie Jane Adams Faulkner.

Libby was a wonderful mother and grandmother, a homemaker and a member of Crab Orchard Christian Church. She was also an avid fisherman and UK fan and a member of the Outlaws CB Club. She was the widow of Joseph David Pleasants.

She was preceded in death by a special friend, Tony Rose; five brothers, Walter, Emmett Ray, Eugene, Charles and Gerald and a sister, Rosemary Hendricks.

She is survived by son, Gary David (Reeda) Pleasants of Junction City; three daughters, Donna Jean Lane of Stanford, Mary Jo (Bill) Wood also of Stanford and Cindy (George) Powell of Danville; brother, Leeroy (Dottie) Faulkner of Falmouth; two sisters, Audrey Hargett Hinton of Falmouth and Joyce Ann (Phillip) Daniels also of Falmouth; two sisters-in-law, Mamie Faulkner of Morgan and Gloria Vaughn of Cynthiana; five grandchildren, Ashley (Crystal) Powell, Shannon Elizabeth (Jason Rose) Lane, David (Penny Raymer) Pleasants, Steven (Tracy Nietzel) Wood and Matthew Wood; six great-grandchildren, Ayla Sallee, Ryan Powell, Gavin Pleasants, and Brandon Dean and Danielle Baselice, and her extended family, Norma and Paul Campbell and their family.

Libby is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Stith Funeral Home and Family Center, Junction City with Rev. Andy Turner.

Burial was in Crab Orchard Cemetery. Memorial were requested to the Fed by Faith Ministry at the Danville Church of God.

 

LaVerne Nafus, 90, Cold Spring

LaVerne Nafus, 90, of Cold Spring, passed away, Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Dover Manor Nursing Home in Georgetown.

She was a homemaker and the daughter of the late Ruben Emery Melcher and the late Edna Pearl (Fox) Melcher.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Nafus.

She is survived by a son, Dennis Nafus of Edgewood; a daughter, Charlene (Nafus) Craycraft of Cynthiana; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Visitation services will be held from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Alexandria Funeral Home in Alexandria. Funeral services will also be held at Alexandria Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008. Burial will be at Alexandria Cemetery in Alexandria.

 

Charles B. Kirk, 78, Florence

Charles B. Kirk, 78, of Florence, passed away, Tuesday, April 2, 2008 at St. Elizabeth South, Edgewood.

He was a retired truck driver for Continential Bakery, and also worked for 20 years for L&N Railroad. Charles was an Army Veteran.

Charles is survived by his wife, Donna Kirk of Florence; four daughters, Charlene Giles of Glencoe, Marta Kirk of Ft. Mitchell, Cindy Bates of Walton, and Gina Kirk of Park Hills; a brother, Robert Kirk of Independence; a sister, Lois Ann Hall of Erlanger; eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will take place at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Allison and Rose Funeral Home Inc in Taylor Mill. Interment will be at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Taylor Mill.

 

John Biddle, 48, Melbourne

John Franklin Biddle, 48, of Melbourne, passed away, Thursday, April 03, 2008 in Butler.

He was a groundskeeper for Flagg Springs Golf Course. He was the son of the late John and Mary Frances (Osborne) Biddle.

John is survived by his wife, Darlene Sue Biddle of Melbourne; a son, Michael Schmidt also of Melbourne; two daughters, Jessica (Biddle) Wilson of Alexandria and Michelle (Biddle) Schmidt of Melbourne; sisters, Lila King of Sadieville, Gloria Kidd of Lexington. He is also survived by four grandchildren.

Vistitation was held Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Alexandria Funeral Home in Alexandria. He was cremated.

 

Kathryn Nelson, 83, Melbourne

Kathryn Marguerite Nelson, 83, of Melbourne passed away, Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Saint Luke East Hospice in Fort Thomas.

She was a retired accounting manager for Graydon, Head & Ritchey Attorneys at Law in Cincinnati, Ohio, and a member of Ashbury United Methodist Church, Highland Heights.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Andy Glasbrenner in 2005.

Kathryn is survived by husband, Chester Nelson Sr., of Melbourne; daughter, Kathy (Nelson) Graziani of Melbourne; son, Chester B. Nelson Jr., of Cold Spring; grandchildren, Amanda Graziani of Tampa, Fla., Ben Graziani of Melbourne.

Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Highland Heights. Final resting place will be University College of Medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio.

 

Frieda Slayback, 96, Highland Hts.

Frieda L. Slayback, 96, of Highland Heights passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport.

She was the daughter of the late Andrew Schoultise and Wilhelmina (Schweitzer) Schoultise. Frieda was a homemaker and a member of Ashbury United Methodist Church in Highland Heights.

Frieda was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Slayback in 1973.

She is survived by daughters, Elaine Hart of Alexandria, Janet McGohan of Fort Thomas; five grandchildren, and nine great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Alexandria Funeral Home in Alexandria. Funeral services will follow also at the funeral home. Interment took place at Alexandria Cemetery.

 

Lucille McElfresh, 77, Brooksville

Lucille Teegarden McElfresh, 77, of Brooksville, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2008. She was born in Milford, the daughter of the late Albert and Velma Lucas Teegarden.

Lucille was a homemaker and retired cook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard G. McElfresh; three brothers, Hank, Jay and Richard Teegarden and sister, Alberta Clayton.

Lucille is survived by four sons, Tom (Carol) McElfresh of Falmouth, Marty (Becky) McElfresh of Brooksville, Brian (Mychelle) McElfresh and Scotty McElfresh both of Foster; 10 grandchildren, one great grandchild; two brothers, Billy and James Teegarden of Brooksville, and sister, Joyce Murray of Maysville.

Funeral Services were held, Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Moore & Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Burial took place in Johnsville Cemetery, Foster.
