Paul E. Dickison, 63, Falmouth
Paul E. Dickison, 63, of Falmouth, Ky., passed away on Monday, December 18, 2006 at the Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Born on January 27, 1943 in Harrison County, Ky., he was the son of Mildred Catron Dickison and the late Jack Dickison.
He was a retired manager for AT&T, a member and deacon at Richland Baptist Church in Pendleton County, and a member of the United States Air Force. He was actively serving as a magistrate for Pendleton County Fiscal Court, and was just elected to another term.
He graduated from Pendleton County High School in 1961 and attended Eastern Kentucky University. He was active in the martial arts. A fellow employee from AT&T has donated several acres in Northern Pendleton County and established the Paul E. Dickison Nature Trail.
"Paul was one of the most cooperative and most intelligent people I have ever worked with," added Pendleton Judge/ Executive Henry Bertram. "He would stop in the office about everyday and I would use him as a sounding board. I'm sure going to miss him."
Politics was no stranger to Paul, his father, the late Jack Dickison was a former Pendleton County judge.
The family owned and operated a gas station, Via 27 Service Center, just south of Falmouth on Highway 27, for many years. So Paul grew up puttering around in the garage.
Fellow classmate and long time friend Roger Anderson recounts Paul's younger years. "He was a person that had many capabilities. Anything he read, he could do," he said.
"In his teenage years, he was into drag racing and he rebuilt his own car motors," recounts Anderson. "He has helped me at the garage with projects that I've had over the years."
Paul had his machine shop next to Anderson's Equipment. "He would go there and tinker around with old machines such as lathes, etc. that he would buy and rebuild or other things such as rebuilding one of his airplane motors."
He was a long time member of the Falmouth/Pendleton County Airport Board. "He helped and tried to do anything he could anywhere for the betterment of the community," said fellow friend and pilot Paul Tuemler. "He loved to fly his plane. In fact, he went up with me a couple of weeks ago."
He dedicated himself to the Falmouth Rotary Club as he did with anything he undertook.
Paul served as Assistant District Governor for Rotary. He served multiple terms as Falmouth Rotary President, International Club Chairman and a Paul Harris Fellow. He went to Honduras as part of Rotary International to help the people there.
Besides working diligently in the Falmouth Rotary Club Paul was best known for his famous spaghetti and sauce he was in charge of at the annual Falmouth Rotary Club Spaghetti Supper.
"Paul Dickison, What manner of man was he? Intelligent. Articulate. Poised. Multilingual. Pilot. Served his nation as an intelligence officer. Served his county as a magistrate for four years and was re-elected without opposition," said fellow Rotarian Owen Collins. "Paul could move with aplomb among the dignitaries in state government and felt just as comfortable, if not more so, with the common man on the streets of Falmouth, bringing to mind Kipling's 'If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings---nor lose the common touch.'"
Paul will be sadly missed by his family, friends, county government, fellow Rotarians and the community he served with pride.
"He will never be forgotten for he has left behind many things that he accomplished for his community," said Falmouth Outlook Editor Debbie Dennie.
He is survived by his mother, Mildred Dickison of Falmouth; and a sister, Barbara Dickison Storer of Falmouth.
