Max Goldberg, 94, Falmouth

Max Goldberg, 94, of Falmouth passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at the Life Care Center in Morehead, Kentucky.

Max was a son of the late Sol and Jennie Goldberg, who emigrated from Russia. For 41 years, he served as the Mayor of Falmouth, and owned and operated the Maysville Opera House in Maysville and the Past Time Theater in Falmouth.

Max owned several properties in Falmouth, Kentucky and Knoxville, Tenn. He was also a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps where he fought during World War II in the Battle of the Bulge and was shot down twice. He was a member of American Legion Hardin Browning Post 109.

Max is survived by one nephew, Stephen Goldberg of Morehead, two great nephews; Howard and Bradley Goldberg and one grand nephew, Hayden Goldberg.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 23, 2007 at Woodhead Funeral Home in Falmouth. Interment with full military honors by the Hardin Browing Post 109 was held in the Riverside Cemetery in Falmouth. Chaplin Shelby McDowell officiated.

Harold Workman, 81, Florence

Harold Workman, 81 of Florence, formerly of Falmouth, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2007 at the St. Elizabeth South Hospice Unit in Edgewood.

Harold was the son of the late Robert E. and Letha Tackett Workman, and a member of Florence Methodist Church and a former member of the Falmouth Methodist Church. Harold was an employee at Daugherty's Lumber Co. and retired from French Bauer. He was a veteran serving in the United States Army and was in World War II, and a member of Woodman of the World.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Workman, daughter, Lois Workman, two brothers; Hanson Workman and Lester Workman, and survived by sons; Ken (Sarah) Workman of Butler, David (Margie) Workman of Independence, daughters; Marianne (Terry) Marshall of Wilder, and Carol (Nate) Setters of Florence, and a sister, Nelda Webster of Williamstown. Among other survivors are seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 21, 2007 at Peoples Funeral Home in Falmouth. Interment was held at Riverside Cemetery in Falmouth.

 

Ruth Bezold, 85, Fort Thomas

Ruth M. Bezold, 85, of Fort Thomas passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at Highland Springs.

Ruth was a retired employee of McAlpins in Cincinnati, Ohio and a member of Sun Valley Senior Citizens and Sts. Peter and Paul Church and Sts. Peter and Paul Senior Citizens.

She is survived by brother Leo Bezold and sister Betty (Bezold) Seiter also of California, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass was held at Saints Peter and Paul Church in California on Saturday, December 22, 2007. Burial took place at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Gladys Gates, 86, Harlan Co.

Gladys Gates, 86, of Harlan County, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2007 at Johnson-Mathers Nursing Home.

She was the daughter of the late George and Mary Jones Johnson of Harlan County, and a member of Wesley Chapel CME Church.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Daniel Gates, and a daughter, Melanie Rachael Gates, and great-grandson Bradley Gates.

Survivors include six sons; Eddie (Geraldine) Gates of Cynthiana, Douglas (Lois) Gates of Carlisle, Jimmie (Pat) Gates of Salt Lick, David (Annie) Gates of Carlisle, Billy Joe (Tirah) Gates of Falmouth, and Rickie (Linda) Gates of Fleming Co., a daughter, Georgia (Billy) Gilvin of Carlisle, three brothers; Randy Johnson of Kettering, Ohio, Sam Johnson of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and Henry Johnson of S. Carolina, 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 20, 2007 at Wesley Chapel CME Church by Rev. Darrell Rollins. Burial was in Longview Cemetery at Bethel.

Christine Tucker, 87, Brooksville

Christine Woods Tucker, 87, of Brooksville, passed away, Thursday, December 20, 2007 at Grand Haven Nursing Home in Cynthiana.

Christine was born in Bracken County and the daughter of the late Orville Woods and Mary Elizabeth Estep Woods.

She was a homemaker and a member of Oakland Christian Church in Pendleton County and attended Powersville Baptist in Bracken County.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Tucker (1976), and brothers; Hobert Woods, Clinton Woods, Orville Woods, Jr., Darcus Woods, Claude Woods, and sisters; Barbara Cooper, Loraine Litzing, Virginia Smith, Betty Barnard and Vilma Woods.

She is survived by daughter, Neva Ann Tucker of Brooksville, and sisters; Ruth West of Brooksville, Eva Jean Nickerson of Augusta, Pauline Jefferson and Caroline Ligett also of Brooksville., and a brother, Gilbert Woods of Brooksville.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 22, 2007 at Moore and Parker Funeral Home in Brooksville. Interment took place at Bracken Memorial Cemetery in Brooksville.
