Rescue workers join forces to free trapped horse

Nearly 40 rescue workers from Harrison and Pendleton counties combined their efforts in an attempt to save a horse that fell through several feet of downed trees and brush into a gully, Sunday, July 22.
"Summer," an 11-year-old mare owned by Angela Martin of Spider Road, was out roaming the recently cleared hillsides of the family's property, when the accident occurred. Trees and brush had been pushed in a gully at the foot of two hills and the horse tried to cross over them. She fell through the brush and landed on her side in the bottom of the gully about eight feet below.
The sister of the horse, "Blackie," stood near the gully and refused to leave the area. This alerted Martin to the situation and she discovered the trapped mare. She immediately contacted Harrison County Rescue personnel and they were dispatched to the scene to try and free the animal.
