Summer Reading Program Fun For All

Clowns and children celebrate summer reading program
Each year the Pendleton County Library provides the summer reading program for our children. That program for this summer came to a close on Friday, July 11. It's a program the children enjoy and to celebrate the end of the reading program there were face painters, clowns and a drawing held that had many great prizes to win. All-in-all there was a total of 236 children registered in the program this year. The photo above shows approximately 150 of the children who took part this year. Photo by Christina Keeton.

Little farmer shows off his new tractor won at youth fair
Look out Pendleton County farmers. There's a newcomer on the horizon. Little Mason Wessel was a participant in the Kiddy Pull held at the Pendleton Youth Fair last week. He was a mighty happy little boy. Notice he has a piece of straw in his mouth and hasn't a worry in the world. His name was drawn from all the participants and he won this John Deere tractor donated by Bowen Farm Supply of Gardnersville and Florence.

Rumpke truck and two other vehicles involved in wreck
By Jackie Vaughn, Reporter
Pendleton County Sheriff Craig Peoples investigated a three-vehicle, injury accident at the intersection of US 27 and Lock Road, around 10 a.m., on Tuesday, July 8.
Jackie Thomas, 45, Butler, operating a Rumpke front loader garbage truck, was traveling south on US 27 when Thomas Utz, 28, Falmouth, pulled out in front of him from Lock Road. Utz stated to police that he did not see the truck. Thomas applied his brakes but was unable to avoid striking Utz's vehicle on the left side, causing severe damage. The Rumpke truck then proceeded across US 27 into the opposite lane. Samantha Wright, 19, Falmouth, operating a 1998 Mazda, was traveling northbound and hit the front right corner of the Rumpke truck. Damage to her vehicle was also severe. Utz and Wright received minor injuries and were transported to St. Luke Hospital to be checked out.
Pendleton County Ambulance Service, TransCare, Kentucky State Police, Butler Police Chief Kenny Hale, Butler Fire Department, Northern Pendleton Fire Department, Northern Pendleton Ambulance, and Constable Lou McCord assisted at the scene.
"Rumpke would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to everyone involved in the incident," said Dan Katt, Loss Control Specialist for Rumpke's Safety Department. "Rumpke appreciates the quick response of the local emergency team."
Miles Towing and Midwest Towing removed the damaged vehicles from the roadside.

Old photos needed for new history book
about county
We want to put together another history book of Pendleton County in 2009 and we are looking for photos to go in it. If you have some old photos that have not gone into our other history books, then you need to gather them up and bring them in. We will scan them and give them back to you.
Please have your information already written or typed as this will speed up the process. Old family photos, landmarks in the county way back then, etc.
It is important to preserve the history of our county and this is a good way to do it.
Our street address is 210 Main Street and our mailing address is: The Falmouth Outlook, P.O. Box 111, Falmouth, KY 41040.
