$4,000,000 power plant to be constructed at landfill Officials conduct ground breaking ceremony Monday, June 26

Kentucky State Senator, Katie Stine, Pendleton County Judge/ Executive, Henry Bertram and officials from Rumpke Consolidated Companies, Inc., East Kentucky Power Cooperative and Owen Electric Power broke ground on Monday, June 26, for a new methane gas power plant, that will be located at Rumpke's Pendleton County Landfill.

The plant will cost $4,000,000 and completion is expected by January 1, 2007. The East Kentucky Power Cooperative will build and own the plant. The methane gas to run the facility will be generated by the organic substances in the Rumpke Landfill.

Owen Electric will purchase the power produced by the plant. Owen Electric serves 3,500 households in Pendleton County. The methane gas facility is expected to produce enough electricity to supply 2,300 customers. Additional information regarding the new plant and its operation will be published in next week's issue.

Some important information about the beauty pageants was received too late to be included in the 2006 Fair Book.

All fair pageant entries for the following beauty pageants need to take note: Miss Pendleton County Beauty Pageant entries, Miss Teen Pageant entries will all wear black sportswear.

For the Miss Pre-teen there will be no sportswear or interviews, just an evening gown of choice.

The theme for all three beauty pageants is Hollywood.

Plenty of activities for everyone during Pendleton County Homecoming Days
Aerobatic demonstrations at Noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

This coming weekend, Friday, June 30, Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2, is quite an important one for our county. The county will be celebrating Pendleton County Homecoming Days, Lots of entertainment is planned for all three days. Come out and see old classmates, watch the parade and dance at the newly built Stonewood Gardens.

The committee for this homecoming has worked really hard and the community needs to support them by planning on attending the homecoming events.

There is a variety of events planned for everyone in the family. On Friday evening at 8 p.m. at the Griffin Centre Kincaid Regional Theatre will be having a tribute to Skeeter Davis by Donna Frost, who performed with Skeeter Davis on the Grand Ole Opry Stage. Food will be provided and sold by Northern Pendleton Fire Department and Falmouth Christian Church.

Saturday, you can be totally amazed as you watch the aerobatic demonstration flights at the Gene Snyder Airport off Highway 22 W. Demonstrations will begin at Noon, 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. Each demonstration will last approximately 45 minutes. The Pendleton County Chamber of Commerce will be selling sandwiches and refreshments.

There will be story telling at the Pendleton County Library starting at 9 a.m. and running until 5 p.m.

You can shop the many craft booths from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the St. Xavier Catholic Church on Second Street and the Falmouth Christian Church on Shelby Street. Christmas in July is the theme.

The annual Homecoming Day parade begins at 11 a.m. Gather along the parade route and watch this year's parade. The parade will begin at the Athletic Park and follow U.S. 27 turning on to Shelby Street and on through downtown. There will be a Pendleton County Youth Horse Show at 4 p.m. at the fairgrounds.

Kincaid Regional Theatre will have an exclusive presentation of "South Pacific", a tribute performance for veterans organizations, veterans and their families at the Falmouth School Center on Chapel Street in Falmouth.

Ending the evening will be great as The Pendleton County Search and Rescue is sponsoring a Homecoming Dance at Stonewood Gardens from 7 p.m. until midnight. Music will be provided by independent recording artist and hometown boy Scott Said and the Back Roads Band.

The Pendleton County Youth Horse Show will starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the fairgrounds so come and watch this weekend of entertainment.

Fire destroys mobile home on Hwy 17

Fire destroyed a singlewide mobile home on Highway 17 N in the DeMossville area around 10:25 p.m. Friday, June 23. Terry Howard, Crystal Knox and their two children small children escaped safely from their home. Butler Fire Department and Falmouth Fire Department was also dispatched to the fire scene for backup. Red Cross responded to the scene to help the family. The mobile home was owned by Connie Pfanstiel. Cause of the fire was unknown. Article and photo by April DeFalco.

Country Club will petition state for alcoholic beverage license

Voters in the Butler Community Precinct went to the poll on Tuesday, June 20 and voted 46 to 39 in favor of selling alcoholic beverage by the drink at the Pendleton County Country Club.

The ballot stated the question as: "Are you in favor of the sale of alcoholic beverages by the drink at Pendleton County Country Club Golf Course in the Butler Community Center Precinct?"

In order for this question to be put on the ballot the club had to have a total of 25% of voters names on that petition that voted in the last General Election, which was in 2002. There were 199 signatures on the petition and that total come down to 155 after it was checked, which was more than the 147 names they needed for the question to be on the ballot.

Early morning fire destroys mobile home south of town

A father and his three children escaped serious injury when their mobile home was destroyed by fire around 5:25 a.m. Monday, June 26 at 57 Christina Lane in the Corral Mobile Home Park south of Falmouth. Donald Sandlin told fire personnel that the smoke alarm inside their mobile home was what awakened him. Sandlin said he and the children were asleep in the living room and when he awoke the other end of the mobile home was filled with smoke. Mr. Sandlin got his children and himself out. Falmouth Fire personnel responded to the fire scene. Butler Fire Department was also dispatched. Fire personnel kept the fire from burning two other mobile homes setting very close. The siding on the mobile home setting behind the burning home was severely melted. Barb Johnson was living in that mobile home on Ashlee Avenue.The mobile home sitting to the left caught on fire but firemen were able to put it out. All three mobile homes were owned by Mr. Sandlin. Shawn Nordheim, former Miss Pendleton County, wins Mrs. Kentucky America 2006 Pageant

A former Miss Pendleton County (1985) has claimed the title of Mrs. Kentucky America 2006. Shawn Mills Nordheim of Butler is the new Mrs. Kentucky America.

The Mrs. Kentucky America Pageant was held at the Kentucky Center for the Arts, Bumhard Theater on June 10, 2006. She competed with delegates from across the Commonwealth in interview, swimwear, and eveningwear. As part of her prize package, she will receive an all expense paid trip to Tucson, Arizona.

Shawn will compete in the Mrs. America Pageant on September, 6, 2006. The Mrs. America Pageant is the only nationally televised Mrs. Pageant in the country. It will be broadcast on the WE-TV Network sometime in September. Broadcast dates will be announced later.

Shawn has been married to her husband, Bryan, since 1991. They are the parents of three boys, Jacob (8), Luke (6), and Max (4). Shawn works as a critical care educator at the St. Luke Hospitals and as an aerobic instructor for the Pendleton County Community Education Program and Silverlake Family Recreation Center. Shawn and Bryan are both 1985 graduates of Pendleton High School.

Pendleton County Parade this July 1

The Pendleton County July Parade will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2006.

All clubs, organizations, churches, groups and individuals are encouraged to participate. Prizes and ribbons will be given. Judging will begin at 10 a.m.

We will be lining up at the Pendleton Athletic Park. Parade participants should enter the park through McDonald's Way and continue down to Woodson Road (next to the new tennis courts in the park) to line up for judging. The parade will begin by turning left onto Hwy 27, then right onto West Shelby Street, and continue through town.

July 4th Fireworks at Butler

The City of Butler and Community Volunteer Fire Department wants everyone to come celebrate the Fourth of July with them at the Butler Community Center on Mill Street in Butler.

The celebration will begin at dusk, so bring your chairs and blankets.
