Smoke house fire causes mobile home to be totaled
Firefighters responded to a structure fire at 294 Red Barn Road, off Highway 330, on Tuesday, February 13. An outbuilding, belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Shannon Booth and family, erupted in flames around 10:30 p.m. Members of the Falmouth and Butler Fire departments braved the frigid cold temperatures and icy road conditions to get to the scene and were able to extinguish the blaze before it could engulf the family's mobile home with fire. The home, which was near the burning outbuilding, suffered fire and smoke damage to the roof and back of it. Firefighters were able to save the contents of the residence. The family did lose many personal belongings that were stored inside the outbuilding. A thermal imaging camera, provided by the Butler Fire Department, was used to find and put out "hot spots" in the remains of the outbuilding and on the back of the home. Pendleton County Ambulance Service and the sheriff's department assisted at the scene. Cause of the fire is believed to be electrical. The home has been deemed a total loss. Photo by April DeFalco.
