Frosty the
Snowman Family and Santa

There are so many beautiful homes decorated for Christmas this year throughout the county. One home we stopped at was Jack and Dian Caldwell's home on Highway 159. They have added to their decorations each year. Dian says it's a family thing and they all get into decorating. They bought the Frosty the Snowman Family wooden characters several years ago in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Her brother Eddie Price made the Santa and reindeers shown in the top photo.

School Board approves construction plan

With a unanimous vote (4-0 with Dr. William Verax absent), the Pendleton County Board of Education approved the proposed $14 million dollar addition/renovation project to Pendleton County High School. The construction documents from the architectural firm of Sherman Carter Barnhart and the completed BG-3 (state building document) from construction manager Codell Construction Inc. will be forwarded to Frankfort for approval.

The project schedule calls for the advertisement for bids to occur on December 26, with a bid opening date of January 23. The board of Education is planning to meet on Tuesday, January 30 to award contracts to the low bidder. It is hoped that construction can begin no later than the first of March.

MYRON DOAN

Morehead State University campus facility
named after Falmouth native

The man that brought Morehead State University prominence in the world of cheerleading has been honored by permanently naming a facility on the campus.

Myron Doan was saluted for all the years of hard work put forth to make his cheerleaders some of the elite in the nation. The former Eagle coach, along with other dignitaries, was on hand for the ceremony naming the "Myron Doan Cheerleading Practice Room" in the Academic-Athletic Center.

"I am honored and humbled to be recognized in such a way," Doan said of the naming. "I have had the good fortune to work with a number of student athletes who devoted their time and enthusiasm to represent the University."

At the ceremony held during the 2006 Homecoming festivities, MSU President Wayne D. Andrews welcomed the crowd, which was followed by remarks from MSU's current squad coach Tony Nash.

Former cheerleader Rush Shaw of Leesburg, Va., led the tribute to Doan, who responded with heartfelt thank you's. Madonna Weathers, vice president of student life, concluded the ceremony with her comments.

Doan retired as dean of students at MSU in 2004. Since 1981, he had coached the varsity cheerleading squad, capturing 14 national championships. From 1994 until his retirement, he also coached the all-girl cheerleaders, which won four national titles.

Santa Claus visits Edwardo's

Santa took time out of his busy schedule to visit children at Edwardo's Pizza and Subs in Falmouth on December 20. Pictured above on Santa's lap is three-year-old Dylan Pollard. He was not bashful about telling Santa what he wanted for Christmas. Dylan is the son of Michael and Cathy Pollard and the grandson of Teresa and Joe Caswell of Falmouth. Santa always visits Edwardo's to have his picture made with the children that are Shopping With A Cop. While he is there that evening other children come to see Santa and have their picture taken. Each child receives a free polaroid picture. Photo by D. Dennie.

Falmouth Police Officer Mark Posey is shown with the little girl he took shopping this year. The camera found them at the Family Dollar Store. Photo by D. Dennie.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Scott Lengle had lots of fun shopping with his new friend. Afterwards they enjoyed free pizza from Edwardo's. Photo by D. Dennie.

Shop With A Cop is special for the children and the officers

Each year the Pendleton County Sheriff's Department organizes a golf tournament, Cop and Court, to help raise money to take many of the underprivileged children in the county shopping at Christmas.

It's a special time when the children can bond with the police officers and see that they want to be their friends.

The officers volunteer their time to get sponsors and then work at the golf tournament held in August of each year. They would like to thank each of the sponsors who have made this shopping trip possible:
