Man shot after confrontation with Falmouth Police Officer

By Jackie Vaughn, Reporter

A local man was shot during an early morning confrontation with a Falmouth police officer on Monday, January 15.

According to reports, Officer Brian Locknane, 33, was dispatched to 308 South Liberty Street around 4:15 a.m. after neighbors in the area reported loud arguing coming from the residence.

Upon Locknane's arrival, he entered the home and discovered that Albert Teague, 44, was armed with a .22 caliber rifle. Locknane was able to get three juveniles and Teague's wife removed from the scene before they could be injured. Another individual, Teague's mother, remained asleep in a back bedroom during the disturbance.

Teague came outside of the home and was still brandishing the weapon. Locknane responded with a single shot, from about 30 feet away, that hit the man in the chest.

Back-up units from the Falmouth Police Department, Pendleton County Sheriff's Department and the Kentucky State Police arrived soon after to assist Locknane.

Teague was very combative with officers even after the shooting. He was taken to University Hospital in Cincinnati by Pendleton County Ambulance Services where he underwent surgery. He was reportedly treated for a punctured lung and broken sternum.

Officer Locknane, a six-year veteran with the Falmouth Police Department, was not hurt in the incident. He has been placed on administrative leave for the time being.

The incident is currently under investigation by Detectives Chris Jaskowiak and Jeremy Murrell of the Kentucky State Police. The Pendleton County Sheriff's Department is assisting in the investigation.

Charges are pending.

Chaplin 2007 Souper Bowl winner

Each year, the FBLA holds a Souper Bowl contest to see who is the best soup maker in Pendleton County. Various elected officials and other persons of interest are asked to make their favorite soup and bring it to the school. As usual the excitement began to build as the contest started. Many tried to win on their bragging rights but at the end the winner was Mrs. Billie Jo Chaplin. She made her special cheezy potato soup. FBLA President Courtney Cox, right, presented Mrs. Chaplin with her own Souper Bowl apron with the contest name and the year embroidered on it. The event raised $300 and the money will be given to The American Heart Association. Thanks to everyone that participated. Photo and article by D. Dennie.

Assembly Café vandalized

The Assembly Café, located on the corner of Main and Shelby streets in Falmouth was vandalized during the overnight hours of Friday, January 12. A huge window, facing the Shelby Street side, was shattered when a piece of concrete block was thrown through it. The damage was not discovered until the next morning. Falmouth Police Officer Ricky Grigson is investigating the incident. "They broke a pretty expensive window. Luckily our insurance will cover it, but the deductible was still high," stated co-owner of the café, Alan Rider. "The broken glass caused quite a mess but we're happy that there were no other damages." The Assembly Café has been open lately for private parties and meetings.
