Toni Wood addresses Falmouth Council
on improving traffic on Highway 22
Bank offers city workers incentives
By Roger McKinney, Reporter
Toni Wood, the mother of PCHS student, Daniel Wood, who lost his life because of a horrible school bus-dump truck collision on the morning of May 1, 2008, addressed the Falmouth City Council in regard to improving traffic safety on Route 22. She asked Mayor DeFalco and the council members to write a letter to the Kentucky House of Representatives and to the Kentucky Senate requesting that certain unacceptable conditions be corrected. Mrs. Wood wanted to lower the speed limit and eliminate through big-truck traffic on Kentucky 22.
Councilwoman Kim Meyers said that she would support lowering the speed limit, but that Pendleton County commercial traffic needed an access to Grant County and Interstate 75. Councilman Rick Mineer stated that he too was in favor of
reducing the speed limit. Mineer said that ideally Route 22 from Route 27 to Williamstown should be straightened.
Councilman Mark Hart made a motion that City Attorney Henry (Skip) Watson III draft a resolution to the Kentucky State Legislators detailing the danger of commercial truck traffic on the narrow winding road. The resolution, Hart said, should ask for the legislator's support in solving the problem. Councilman Hart's motion received a second and was then unanimously approved by the other council members.
Alexandria National City Bank Office Manager Jessica Thompson and Consumer Banker Joanie Caldwell addressed Mayor April DeFalco and the Falmouth City Council in regard to an incentive package available to municipal workers through National City. They explained the advantage of this Work Perk Program and left hard copy information for future consideration.
Other business conducted by the Falmouth City Council in the August 7, 2008 meeting:

Approved a motion that established October 31 as Falmouth's Trick or Treat Night. Children and adults may participate in this Halloween activity from 6-8 p.m.
City Clerk Terry England informed the council that he would have the city's budget prepared in full by August 28, 2008.
Passed a resolution that allowed Mayor DeFalco to sign a construction contract that provides sewer line corrections on Elm Street and on Shelby Street near U.S. 27.
Approved a motion that allowed the city attorney to draft a lease agreement on property near the new sewer plant to be used for farming purposes. The lease would begin in March of 2009 and extend to March of 2010. The lease is to be bid out.
Approved a resolution that allowed the mayor to sell three surplus property city vehicles by the process of sealed bidding.
Entered a closed session to discuss a personnel issue. When the lawmakers returned to open forum no action was taken in regard to the matter.
