Historical Society no longer homeless

The Pendleton County Historical and Genealogical Society was created in 1993. In 2007 the organization found a home, thanks to the generosity of Hilltop Stone. The mine donated the beautiful old Fryer House in Butler to the Society in order that the group have the benefit of an operational headquarters. The Historical Society looks forward to growing and serving the citizens of Pendleton County. Superintendent says Pendleton County Schools to start on time

Construction is not complete on Pendleton County High School, but Pendleton County School Board officials said school will start as advertised on Aug. 21.

"We will open as planned," said Superintendent J. Robert Yost at the regularly scheduled school board meeting held on July 19th.

Project manager Blanton Coates echoed Yost's sentiments during what has become a standard construction update at every meeting regarding the addition/renovation progress at Pendleton County High School.

An above ceiling inspection is scheduled on July 30th. 10 classrooms are to be completely renovated with the start of the school year. Delayed by early bad weather and later by the need to remove bad soils and replace with clean fill, the seven new classrooms and Science lecture lab will not be available until September.

"Rumors persist that school will not start on time," said Superintendent Yost. "People apparently are basing their gossip based upon what they see on the outside of the building. The new construction will not be complete when school starts - this is an 18 month project. The new Auditorium, multipurpose gym or media center will not be finished. Currently we don't have the first or the last, nothing lost. The existing media center will serve its purpose until the new one is ready."

"It would have been nice if the 7 new classrooms and science lecture lab was completed, however we didn't have them at the end of last year, nothing lost. We will start out essentially with the same areas available that we had when last school year ended.

Eligible for FSA emergency loans

Farmers in Boone, Boyd, Bracken, Campbell, Greenup, Kenton, Lewis, Mason, and Pendleton Counties are eligible for Federal disaster assistance, including low interest emergency (EM) loans from the Farm Service Agency (FSA).

July 20, 2007, Secretary Johanns declared 56 Ohio counties as primary natural disaster areas due to damages and losses caused by frost and freeze conditions that occurred from April 1, 2007, through April 20, 2007.

As a result of the declaration, nine Kentucky counties were named as contiguous counties where eligible family farmers may qualify for FSA EM loan assistance pursuant to Section 321(a) of the Consolidated Farm and Rural Development Act.

EM loan applications for physical and production losses will be received through March 20, 2008, and applications pending on that date may be processed and completed.

For additional information on any FSA program, contact the local FSA County office or visit the Kentucky FSA web at: http://www.fsa.usda.gov/ky/.
