William ‘Bill’ Dirkes

William “Bill” Dirkes closed his eyes and passed peacefully while sleeping Tuesday morning, April 1, 2025.

Bill was a loving and devoted husband, as well as a son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and most importantly, friend. Bill was proud of his high school football days and cherished the friendships made in college. He had a long and successful career as a commercial and fine artist. He was humbled to have been given the honor to serve as an elder in his church, and to portray Jesus in the annual passion play. Bill loved his family and friends, and always gave as generously as he possibly could to anyone in need. He was a beautiful soul, and the world is a better place for having once had him in it.

Bill would not have wanted flowers or tears at a funeral service. If you have a favorite charity, consider giving something in his name. If you knew Bill, the best way he would have said to honor his memory would be to find someone else who liked and cared about him and raise a glass in a toast to him. When you do, remember him as a peacemaker who faithfully followed the words of Micah 6:8.

Preceding him in death were his parents; first wife;  sister; and a son.

Bill’s Kentucky family will host a celebration of his life at Flour Creek Christian Church, in Butler, on Friday, April 11, at 4 p.m.

His ashes will be buried alongside his son at Butler Cemetery, this spring.

As Bill would say, Shalom. Make yours a good life.
