GRANT’S LICK — Myra Jane Crowley, 89, of Grant’s Lick, passed away peacefully on Feb. 27, 2026, at River Valley Nursing Home in Butler, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Nov. 22, 1936, in Butler, where she grew up with her mother, father, two sisters and twin brothers.
She graduated from Butler High School in 1955. She attended Transylvania University and graduated in 1959 with degrees in History and Education.
In 1962, Myra Jane received her Master of Divinity from The College of the Bible in Lexington, Kentucky, where she served as president of the Young Democrats, who were engaged in the political movements of the times, such as the Civil Rights movement and campaigning for then-presidential candidate John F. Kennedy.
Upon graduation, she worked at Eastern State Hospital, where she cared for and counseled patients afflicted with psychiatric illnesses.
Eventually, she married Dr. J.C. Crowley and settled in Grant’s Lick, Kentucky, where she worked as his one employee as he began his veterinary practice. She answered phones and scheduled appointments in between raising six children and fostering two daughters.
Throughout her life, Myra Jane lived a life of love, faith and service to her family, church and community. In her parish at St. Mary’s in Alexandria, she served as president of the Parent Teacher Council, taught CCD classes, and would fill in frequently as a substitute teacher.
She also volunteered many years at St. Luke Hospital in Fort Thomas, where her contagious smile and laughter brightened everyone’s day.
Myra Jane also carried on her tradition of political engagement by serving many years as a volunteer for the Southern Campbell County election polling site.
She also loved to travel, taking the opportunity to visit many cities across the U.S. and Europe on church sponsored tours.
Myra Jane was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Patrick (Michele) Crowley, Dr. Michael (Stephanie) Crowley, Colleen (Peter) Crowley-Ames, Dr. Kevin (Rachel) Crowley, Kelly (Emma) Crowley, Linda (Gary) Robinson and Lucy (Gary) Howard. She is additionally survived by her 10 grandchildren, Sean (Sarah) Crowley, Claire (Ethan) Yungdahl, Megan, Jacob, Ryann, Chance, Cole, Caitlin, Kennedy and Madison Crowley.
Myra Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joseph (J.C.) Crowley; her son Kyle Crowley; her grandson, Chase Anthony Crowley; her parents, Homer and Mary (Ducker) Owen; her sisters, Marilyn Dorsey and Kathleen Simmons; and brothers, Howard Owen and Homer Owen.
Visitation hours will be held 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5, at St. Mary Assumption Parish in Alexandria. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon at St. Mary.
