The PCHS Cross Country team competed in the KHSAA Region 4 Class 2A 2025 meet on Oct. 25 at Idlewild Park in Burlington. The teams competing were Bourbon County, Covington Catholic, Franklin County, Harrison County, Holmes, Lexington Catholic, Lloyd Memorial, and Pendleton County.

For Pendleton County, Klaber Wolfe, Levi Wolfe, Ben Brossart and Catalina Furman qualified individually to advance to the state competition, which will be held on Nov. 1 at the New Horse Park in Lexington.

For the Ladycats, Furman placed 25th with a time of 26:17 and Aryanna Soden placed 26th with a time of 27:10. There were a total of 31 competitors in the girls’ division.

“I’m very thankful for cross country, not only for the memories it has given me but also for the confidence and work ethic I have earned,” Furman said.

“Not only has it made me a better runner but also a better person and I will forever be grateful for what cross country and my coaches have done for me.”

For the Wildcats, Klaber Wolfe placed 20th with a time of 18:03, Levi Wolfe placed 34th with a time of 21:06, Ben Brossart placed 36th with a time of 22:11, Isaac Mardis placed 40th with a time of 24:53, Kieran Brayton placed 41st with a time of 24:59, and Josiah Hurdle placed 43rd with a time of 25:42.

“I’m really glad to have set a personal record in my last race as a cross country runner and qualifying for state. I’m super proud of my teammates for also qualifying. It was pretty special for finish out my senior year getting to compete alongside my brother in his first year qualifying for state,” Klaber Wolfe said.

“What I am most proud of is being the first runner in Pendleton County High School history to qualify for state all six years that I was eligible. That’s something that I’ll always carry with me. I would like to thank Coach Hanser for being there in my first year back in fourth grade and again in my senior season. But most importantly, I want to thank Coach Chaplin, who told me from day one that he was going to see me through my senior year. He’s dedicated so many years to this program, and I’m really grateful for everything he has done for me and for our team.”

The boys’ team placed sixth with an average time of 22:14. The top three teams will advance to state. These teams are Lexington Catholic, Covington Catholic, and Bourbon County. The top five runners, not on a winning team, also advance to state to run individually. PCHS had four athletes who qualified individually.

“The whole team raced very hard,” Coach Jacob Hanswer said. “Some of the students will advance to the state meet and some will not, but I am proud of the effort and attitude of every athlete on our team. We are excited for the week to come.”
