Doris ‘Jean’ McClanahan, 91

Erlanger — Doris “Jean” McClanahan, 91, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2025 at VillaSpring in Erlanger.

She was born as the only child of Elva and Jessie Dunaway. Jean grew up on the family farm, graduating as valedictorian of her class from Butler High School. She was a member of Falmouth Baptist Church, formerly Butler Baptist Church. While in High School, Jean and her friend, Dessie loved singing at local events, most notably on the Essco Hankins Show on Lexington WLAP. On June 25, 1955, Jean and Charles E. were married and started their life together. She passed away 10 days shy of their 70th anniversary.

As a mom of three and homemaker, she was very involved in the kids lives. She would take on sewing and ironing for other people as well. Jean eventually went to work as a secretary for Winter Insurance Agency for 23 years. She loved her Cincinnati Reds and Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball, but she would watch many other games as well. She enjoyed traveling and was always ready to go whether it was camping, the lake, Amish Country, or Ft. Meyers, Florida.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were  her daughter-in-law, Kathy McClanahan; and two baby great-grandsons.

Surviving her are her loving husband, Charles E., of Erlanger; daughter, Fonda (Tad) Leach, of Lexington; sons, Terry McClanahan, of Erlanger, Gary (Carla) McClanahan, of West Chester, OH; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; many other family members and friends.

Services were held Friday, June 27, 2025 at Linnemann Funeral Homes, in Erlanger.

Burial took place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, in Erlanger.
