FALMOUTH — Six Southern Elementary School students who never missed a day of classes all year were rewarded with new bicycles.
In 2015, Cloyd J. Bumgardner, Grand Master of Masons in Kentucky, implemented the Masonic Bicycles in Schools for Attendance Program to promote good student attendance.
Bumgardner stressed the importance of regular attendance in school as imperative to learn the skills necessary for success in life.
Orion Lodge 222 of Falmouth has enthusiastically participated in the initiative for the past 10 years and provide bicycles to students of Southern Elementary School.
Due to some extraordinary donations from the brothers of the lodge and local businesses in the community this year, the lodge was able to give away six bicycles and protective gear as well.
All Southern Elementary students with perfect attendance for the year were entered into a drawing, and six names were drawn to receive bikes.
Orion Lodge 222 offered thanks to Kentucky Farm Bureau, Woodhead Funeral Home, Copes and Lenihan Dental Care and C&J Plumbing, Septic and Drainage Services for their donations to make the program possible locally.
