FALMOUTH — The Fellowship of Christian Students gathered last Wednesday morning outside Pendleton County High School for the annual See You at the Pole.
This student-led event featured Christian music, Bible verses and a voluntary prayer circle around the flag pole.
Trinity Southern Baptist preacher Abram Crozier stated that he was “proud of the students who showed up early (to attend See You at the Pole). It takes a lot of courage and faith to stand in a prayer circle in front of your peers as they’re getting off the buses.”
FCS President McKenna Morgan said she was excited that there were more students who attended this year than last.
The group had announced the event over the school intercom, Trinity made a social media post and FCS members sent out reminders to “people we had phone numbers for.”
Morgan said that the students and adults listened to worship music, formed a prayer circle and prayed for their school and people around them.
Trinity’s youth leader, Andrew Baker, said that he loved SYATP. “I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for students to be bold in their faith and pray for their school and alongside fellow classmates.”
FCS Sponsor Theresa Carlisle stated that they “had a wonderful turnout of students and staff. Trinity Baptist donated doughnuts.”
Morgan admitted that some may have shown up for the doughnuts but figured, “whatever it takes (to get people interested in worship).”
Morgan said she became interested in FCS when her sister Taylor was a member while in high school. FCS has 16 members so far, but more students want to join, Morgan stated.
The group has plans to put in a prayer request box at the school, help local churches with events and participate in other community activities.
